What does 'following' mean?

I’m guessing that it means you get some sort of notification, when the party you’re “Following” makes a new post(?).

I see it used mostly when a poster asks a question and someone posts "following" to say that they are also highly interested in the answer and
are " following" the thread . Not sure if that's what applies here.

It’s a polite way of saying stalking 
no if it shows on YOUR screen it probably means you had replied to the post??? in other words you showed an interest and are "following" that post...may even be 'circled" around the word "following".......thats the ONLY time I have ever seen it??? duh go figure, beyond my pay grade........
