I have 2, 10 inch flat top blackhawks. One is a 357 with factory stags and one is a 44 Mag with factory ivory. What did the boxes look like?

I have started accumulating boxes for some of my older flat tops. I pay more for them than I did for the gun. I can't remember how many boxes I threw away starting with my Hawkeye....nice photos you two have shared. Thanks Charlie
7 1/2" and 10" 44 FT boxes are spendy; likewise for the 10" 357 box. Not many made; not many guns to put in them in the first place; Uncommon size from the standpoint of the ten inch container so it was discarded because it did not stack well. The boxes are 48 to 50+ years of age, so age takes a toll, garage ceiling storage, damp or hot attics and basements quietly destroy cardboard, and rodents eat them for lunch(Especially Arizona packrats. Ask a Friend of mine in Mesa. :? ...) Don't hold your breath.........Don't ever stop looking and asking......RugerGuy has a story on long boxes....... 8) I am still hunting for them and it's been 40 plus very dry years....... :roll:

Thanks for the information Hawkeye. I knew they were expensive but I have made garage sale finds in the past and one never knows when a treasure will jump out. I have boxes for my three screw supers but you are correct no boxes for any of my flat tops.

Oh they are out there, just takes time and keep looking, OR very DEEP pockets and the "pucker factor" ( willing to OUTBID the rest of the Ruger collecting world...........) :roll:
we 've had MORE than our fair share of 10 inch boxes, and have to keep a ONE, and the rest are in "others" collections, think the MOST I ever sold one was for $350 and it was a 10 in 357 flatop box............one 44 went for less than $250 ( tulsa,OK, and THATS the "story'd one", 'Splits was referring to and the other 3 were "free" with the guns......... 8)

$$ is going to be dependent on condition. Assuming that you find decent condition boxes, the flat-top boxes are probably going to be in the $400-$500 range while the RSS boxes are probably going to be in the $200-$250 range.
The flat-top boxes are the hardest to find, hence the price. The RSS boxes are around since Ruger probably made somewhere around 150K of the guns in those boxes before they introduced the other barrel lenghts in 1955 and thus added catalog numbers.
I do have a few spare RSS boxes that I'd part with. Email me if you're interested.

Your RENE price guide lists the values. The early, i.e. pre-'59 Flattop boxes are rather difficult to find.
Note the lack of a "catalogue number" on the early box.

Those 10 inch flattops are mighty fine,even o'll micro- sighted crazy Americal had a nice one--bought it from flattop 44 some years ago--it's long gone.44 let me have it at a great price :!:
