What can I do?

It looks like this was dropped (the front sight is also damaged a bit). Thoughts on possible repairs?

It LOOKS LIKE stainless steel. If so, your cheapest option might be to have it bead blasted AFTER the worst dings are filed or whatever. It looks like it got run over by something with studded tires! Polishing might clean up pretty well also if you don't want a matte finish....but it will probably cost considerably more. There are gunsmiths who can re-do a cosmetic wreck and work their magic on a gun, BUT they don't come cheap.

This looks like a good home project to clean up the major damage and then have a professional do the rest. Do some reading and let us know what you do and how it turns out.

It actually looks blued to me. Those are gonna be hard to polish out without washing out those rollmarks.

Honestly, if it were mine I'd leave it alone. If that damage was almost anywhere else I'd most likely polish it out and get it park'd. Hell, I'd probably just blast it and park it anyway. It's a shooter.

Just curious-which weapon is this and how old is it? I'm asking because yours shows Southport, CN but mine shows Prescott, AZ (I know both of them are Ruger locations, but I've never seen one showing the Southport location and I'm trying to learn all I can).

It is a Security Six, 2 3/4" RDA-32 (possibly an RDA-32H but I have to get it lettered by Ruger to be sure). The s/n puts the manufacture date at 1983.

I'll probably fix up the front sight and it will be a carry gun for me so I'll not worry so much about the damage. The crown is in good shape so I think it will shoot fine. I'll find out this weekend.

Let us know how it does. I have an interest in older guns as my dad has one revolver that he has had since before I was born and the thing still works. He says I'm supposed to get it when he and my mother pass away.

You have to work around the barrel address (logo) files and grind off what you can , polish and blend into the "address", yes, you will 'see' the marks in the address, between the letters and such,BUT you will make the rest look GOOD...then refinish the gun, if need be, glass bead it to make it blend in even better..yes, its ALL "hand work" and if a refinisher does it, they may charge by the hour...... :roll:

Since the cylinder is in real good condition, I may just disassemble the whole thing and Cerakote the frame, barrel and trigger assembly. Doing that I will be blasting it and that will blend any marks made while cleaning up the damage the on the barrel and still leave the billboard readable. I can do it where it will be a nice unique two tone, with the cylinder one color (blued) and the frame, barrel and trigger housing a different color.

If I do this, I'll of course post the before and after pictures for you to critique.
