Yesterday morning we had our usual Sunday morning service, good singing, good preaching, and good fellowship. Towards the end of the service though, our pastor felt a "little something" going on in his throat.

At the evening service, announcements were made concerning our Vacation Bible School, coming up this week. Class rooms were already being set up for that, and in a big way! Rooms were made over into "vaults, investigating rooms," etc. the theme being one of a "Spy Mission" type of thing.

As offering was being take up (we're Baptist, you know) our music director and one of the men from our church played the offertory, piano and banjo, playing "Blessed Jesus Hold My Hand." As an usher, I was taking up offering and almost stopped in my tracks to listen. A good banjo has that effect on me.

However, as the time came for preaching, the preacher was one of the young men from our church, just out of school. To our surprise, he delivered a very good sermon. To our surprise as he has never preached before, ans was asked on so short of notice.

And to top it all off, our youth director's seven year old son recited the Books of the Bible to me, to become the one hundred first child to do so.

And the weather was fine!

When I was younger my church used to have meetings all day on Sunday. We had Sunday school, morning meeting, lunch, afternoon meeting. Then you would go home for a couple hours to relax and eat dinner and head back for the Sunday evening scripture study.

We still have the two meetings, but it's been years since we had the evening meetings.
