All:
I've been thinking about possible options to chamber a 40 caliber/10mm revolver to a custom cartridge. So far, I have following:

40 S&W
10mm auto
10mm magnum
401 Herter's Powermag
38-40 (38 WCF)
41 Long Colt
400 Corbon

So, did I miss anything? Thanks. TPA.

DEFINE " custom cartridge " as you use it here, please.

PS: you missed several.

Not originally designed or not originally used but the cylinder reworked to be used with the revolver. I forgot to include 401 GNR. So, what DID I miss? Thanks. TPA.

JD Jones came up with a couple. Using both the .44Mag (.40-44 Woodswalker) and .454 (.40-454JDJ) cases necked down. It's tough to get commercial jacketed pistol bullets to stay together at those velocities though. I don't know if either is applicable to revolver use. Pressures are in the 60,000psi range.

.41Colt (Short and Long) actually used a .401" heel based bullet or a .386" inside lubed hollow-based bullet and the same .400" bore as the rest.

I designed my 401 Bobcats back in 1994 (3rd and 4th from the left):

Cool, I'm still thinking seriously about doing something like that with an Old Model .357 converted to .38-40 with another cylinder in a straight-wall like the .401.
