What’s your approach to cleaning blued revolvers

Have been in the stainless game until recently. In areas like the cylinder face or the forcing cone, what’s your approach?

With stainless I’d typically use a lead removal cloth and get things as close to clear as possible. This of course is a no go on blued.

With blued, thus far, my approach has been to nylon brush these areas and basically say “good enough.”

Any tricks or products you use on blued that aren’t damaging to the finish?

My approach is to face them on my bench muzzle to the wall.....let them get comfortable for a bit and then I sneak up on them and clean them like anything else.....

Seriously though I clean blued the same as stainless....no different procedure. Cylinder faces I use "miracle cloth" and it works great....blued or stainless.

Hadn’t heard of Miracle Cloth. The Birchwood Casey lead remover cloths say don’t use on Blued. I see it on Amazon will look into thanks

For the most part I only own stainless and leave them alone till the cylinder starts to drag a bit then clean them.

The rare blue model revolvers I have I treat differently and they get better care with Hoppes and hosing them down with CRC.

I used to clean my revolvers once a year around Christmas time. Now that I'm retired I clean them after every range visit.

Hoppes #9.....that's ALL. Maybe a drop of oil in some places. My 2 bottles must be at least 30 years old so I don't know what formula version it is.

My SS cylinders have black rings at the throat end. Doesn't bother me. What the Hoppes doesn't take off stays there.
