Nita and I drove to the community of Galaway, Tennessee, to Slingshot Charlie's for lunch today. After a lunch of fried catfish, turnip greens, purple hull peas, cornbread and chocolate chess pie, we drove on toward Brownsville, Tennessee. US Highway 70 was under water but passable for maybe a hundred yards or so. But fields are flooded in low areas around the Hatchie River, Loosahatchie, and Forked Deer rivers. I told Nita I hadn't seen so much water since we took a whale watching tour.

And of all things, we ended up in Humboldt, TN and at W.H McGuns shop. Haven't seen so many vintage Colt and S&W revolvers in awhile. Many Colt Diamondback revolvers were noticed.

Quite a drive!

Bob,
That is indeed a neat shop. I've not been there since 1998 when I bought my Cooper Model 36. I need to drive back down for a visit. A buddy of mine used to live in Gadsden and we would go to this shop in the very early 70's.

Bob,

That sounds like a great lunch except for the stuff colored green and purple. :)

Purple hull peas are almost like black-eyed peas, very similar to them. Only the hulls are purple. If you don't eat them, you don't know what you are missing, they are indeed a treat.

If it weren't for greens, most Southerners would have starved after the Civil War. Yankees didn't know about greens and let them grow. They did burn the corn and other crops that they didn't steal.
