heaven forbid someone sees me buying pickles or stocking up on Charmin . . . . . 
Reminds me there was a picture going around were you were in back of a full burka woman taking a picture of 5 other full burka women at Disney World, I guess it got buried as too sensitive.
I was at Walmart earlier and as I was going through the line there is a picture of everyone in the line and next thing there is a red square around me. ?? The register girl was pleasant, clear English and communicative. Was I really in Walmart?
In wall mart today I saw three adults with grown children that obviously had some sort of issue that meant they could not function on their own. Two were obviously downs syndrome. The parents were obviously older and had had the care of these kids since birth. I admire them.

Customs at cruise ports use facial recognition when coming back into the country. At least Port Canaveral does.

Don't forget realtime price adjusting. Some chains are installing electronic price tags on the shelves....
That's old news. I've been dealing with digital signs for over a decade.

Years back I chatted with a salesman for security cameras to set up our hotel. He said he could do any kind of install I wanted. I asked what did he mean. After a bit of digging he was describing a casino install with a creepy manager who was doing high def low light cameras he coul pan zoom etc. he really liked filming the ladies in revealing outfits. He also said he did a lot of big box stores in the dressing rooms from above, on the steel beamed high ceilings like wal mart. I asked wouldn't that make shoplifting cases go away? He just said they don't ever admit having the video from dressing rooms. I have a huge issue with video surveillance, but it's being taken to an unbelievable level these days. By the good guys and the bad guys.

Just watched a video about "surveillance pricing," an online tactic by retailers to charge different people different prices. Really no different than Bob the gun dealer giving you a better price because you bought five guns this month. But the implementation is a bit disturbing. In a nutshell, you and your wife could use your phones to order the same item from Target and wind up paying different prices.
For the record, I don't shop on my phone. I hate having to read a tiny screen.

I don't think that we've reached the stage where if I pick up a bag of chips, it will be $3.95 and the next guy pays $4.95 because the system is tracking individual bags of chips. It's coming but I don't think that it's here yet.
As I said before, I've been talking to a customer at the product and had the price change. "Did that just go up $50?" Yep.
Digital price tags are a boon for the retail world. No more wasted paper. No more man hours spent putting up signs.
The 10% veterans discount is very much active at the Home Depot.

Paper tags with the price tag on the shelf were the way to end any argument over the price at the register. Walk back to the shelf, pull the tag, walk back up, hand it to the clerk, and there's pretty much no way they can claim you read it wrong.
I have not yet had to rip one of those lcd screen things off and walk it up to the counter, but if they think that's going to be a deterrent, they're very much mistaken.

I just got back from Home Depot not even an hour ago to buy a grout saw and extra blades and I used my Vet discount and received it. In doing so I have to scan the bar code on my DL
Lumber is a commodity and the prices can change daily, so it is not included. Neither are clearance items.
Everybody gets 11% off every day at Menards.

That's too bad. We have all 3 of the big boxes here, and I seldom visit Lowes or Home Depot.

Those are basic EVPM's. They are not even online with the Verint system that THD uses for cams. The EVPM's store data on a SD card inserted in the bottom. There is no facial recognition. My GAWD the paranoia with folks.....bet you hate walking down the high shrink aisles where some stores have EVPM's with audio annunciators.THD has the Veteran discount, and has never not had it. Oh and by the way...Lowes is run by a tenured THD Exec....and the majority of senior management at Lowes is former THD......all by design. Lowes has copied everything THD does/has done since the THD takeover. When you walk into Blue.....make no mistake you are walking into the way of the Orange. I would not be surprised if they eventually merge the same way as Bass Pro Shops took over/merged with Cabelas.
Well, my Orange Box has coordinated with the local law enforcement and incorporated facial recognition with the monitoring system. Once a thief steals enough to make felony threshold, local law enforcement issues a warrant and the thief is taken down in an area other than the Big Orange Box.
The current hands off smile for the camera pocily is taking the worst offenders off the streets at least down here in Florida. It was just difficult to watch the woman wheeling out multiple generators while screaming how bigoted we where at HD. It's been 18 months now that she isn't free to perform again. It's just a shame that you have to allow them to steal enough to make it worth local law enforcement time and effort. Oh well, as long as nobody at work gets hurt, and the criminals eventually get nicked, guess it works. But 100K takes sometime, yet for organized groups that's less than a daily haul.

Wait until you walk into a market or HD type store and you look up and see a small "personal" size drone following your every move... It will take some time, but as the systems get cheaper, and smaller, and the AI takes over, and product theft might be reduced enough to even lower prices... Or probably not...! Or professional thieves will have a "Jamming team" entering the store to jam the drones...! Like our military does when our fighter planes bomb Iran...! If you can think it up, it could happen... The future looks kinda scary...!
Already being tested in some retail and supply chain locations. Both drones and robots. Not just for internal/external theft but also for operational management such as slotting and sku movement. In fact there is a program being tested where product is picked from location, brought to staging area, and trailers are loaded all by robot and monitored by drone. It has removed human behavior/error and improved load time, delivery time and even inventory shrinkage from operational error/damage and theft....robots/drones don't have to take breaks to eat/hydrate/defecate/urinate/smoke/etc. Soon there will be no need for actual manpower aside from drone/robot maintenance....until they can maintain themselves that is....
I can see benefits in inventory control, especially as, in most businesses, inventory theft is usually done by people actually working in the retail/wholesale place of business...
