Washing machine

My old washer died, got a new Maytag front loader. Nothing fancy, the base model.
It is sitting on a pedestal (which frankly I am disappointed with, as Maytag pedestals don't exactly fit, but that's another story). The floor is LVT. The washer is level any way I put a level on it. It works fine. The problem is, 75% of the time, it walks. I put anti vibration, anti skid feet on it and it still does it.
I thought about getting a mat for it but I have not yet.
Any other suggestions?

Maytag is NOT the Maytag of earlier days. They are part of Whirlpool now I believe and Whirlpool is not as good as it ones was.. Our first Washer and dryer were Maytag and they lasted over 30 years with very few service calls. My wife wanted a front loader so she got new upper end Maytag and I don't think either lasted much over 10 years (if that) with multiple service calls. They were replaced with cheap Samsung's; I don't recommend the Samsung, they work but are showing rust where the very thin porcelain ) or more likely paint) has flaked.

Ours never moved until I replaced the carpeting with laminate flooring...Then it started walking all over the room. I just bought some inexpensive (less than $25) anti vibration pads off of Amazon, and that solved the problem.

l was hoping that would do it but so far no. Maybe I need to try different pads.

Front load washers have gigantic weights in them to dampen vibrations. It could be that there is a problem with yours. Call Maytag and get a warranty visit.

The issue is that people don't want to pay for quality. I deal with this issue every day. Forty years ago, a side by side fridge with water and ice in the door was about $1,500. Today one is $1,400. The funny thing is that forty years ago, people paid that $1,500 willingly but today complain about $1,400. What had to give to keep prices that low?

I worked for Maytag for 33+ years and was terminated when the company was purchased and the Newton manufacturing facility was being phased out in 2006. What you purchased today carries the Maytag name but is much different than the products of the past that built such a stellar reputation for quality and durability. I'm not trashing Whirlpool products but it's a fact. Our Maytag washer and dryer was built probably around 1995 and are still going strong and we will not replace them until they can't be repaired. Our store owner told us that the product today that most closely resembles the Maytag washers and dryers of the past was Speed Queen. That's what our daughter and son in law bought around 10 years ago and seem to be doing ok. I'm not a fan of front loading washers myself.

After around 30 years or good service our Whirlpool washer and dryer set, that we purchased from Sears, started acting up and I couldn't see repairing them because of their age.

Right at two years ago we purchased a new Speed Queen TR7 and DR7 set and the wife couldn't be happier.

Over the years, we've always bought Speed Queen. Unfortunately, the last one only lasted 10 years and I was told that even SQ is not supposed to go past 8 - 10 years....
It's tough being an "old timer" and relinquishing all our fond expectations of EVERYTHING.

Lesson learned. It happens to all of us at some time.
Lucky for me when I replaced our dead 30 year old Whirlpools, I had relatives who had recently suffered the Maytag and front load problems.

Believe me, it was a hard pill to swallow shelling out the $$ for Speed Queen Commercial heavy Duty but ….. live and learn.

Hope they get things fixed up for you soon.

Exact same thing here. We went with the models that have dials and buttons instead of electronic panels though.

Our Maytag washer and dryer was built probably around 1995 and are still going strong and we will not replace them until they can't be repaired.

My washer and dryer are Whirlpools from 1999. I had to replace the belt in the dryer. The washer needed a new motor coupling and a motor switch. Total in repairs, ~$80. Of course, it's only me and my daughter so I'm not doing ten loads a day.

Exact same thing here. We went with the models that have dials and buttons instead of electronic panels though.

They all have electronics hiding behind the knobs.

I sold and installed Maytag products in the late 70’s. Can’t tell you how many times I dragged a trailer to Galesburg for product!

Wife and I moved into an apartment that only had room for a washer or dryer. Wife being as smart as she was found a stackable unit. I had researched in Consumer Reports, washing machines and found that the tubs of the washers would rust out after awhile. There were several pictures. The only one what was not rusted out and top rated was Maytag's. Purchased in 1982, it is still going strong and has only had maintenace once. When first installed the Maytag repairman changed the unit from 220v to 110. When we bought a home to have them move it, they changed it back to 220v.
I don't know how the new units are holding up, but usually when buying most things there is one brand that is the best quality and at the top of the list. For a washing machine I would have to say Maytag.

My wife bought a Sears Kenmore washing machine when she was in South Dakota working on the Pine Ridge Lakota Sioux Reservation in 1986. It's at her dad's house and still working fine.
