WARNING...LC9 rear sight problem!

DO NOT completely remove the socket head screw from the rear sight and try to remove the sight. The rear sight is used to hold the hammer lock, hammer lock spring and spring guide pin in place. The set screw is directly on top of the guide pin and spring. If you completely remove the set screw, the guide pin will be lifted up into the set screw hole and when you move the sight it will shear the pin in half.
I contacted Ruger and they are sending me a new pin. They said that the proper way to move the sight is to only loosen the set screw 1/4 turn so the set screw will keep the spring slightly compressed and the guide pin will clear the rear sight.
Should have been noted in the instructions. The instructions say nothing about the sights other than that they are adjustable.

Not sure I would consider this a "Problem" BUT a "Warning" is in order - Look at the diagram on page 33 of the owners manual. Note the relationship of the rear sight (Parts 38 & 39) to the firing pin block (Parts 32, 36 & 37). Always good to arm yourself with a little knowledge before tinkering with any firearm. Don't ask me how I know...

The only reason I consider this a problem is that there is a inadvertent potential of damaging a safety device when the rear sight is adjusted. Maybe the correct flag should have been "DANGER". My biggest disappointment is that Ruger did not even cover the "proper" method of adjustment in the operator's manual.
Don't get me wrong. I love Ruger guns. I just think they have a problem here that needs to be addressed, at least with proper instructions.

Point well taken and maybe your warning post will save someone else some grief. And like I posted "Always good to arm yourself with a little knowledge before tinkering with any firearm. Don't ask me how I know" - I learned this lesson the hard way and now it looks like you have as well...

You bring up a very good point.

Here is the link to Ruger Customer Service, they should be made aware of your concern.

I received the new guide pin and spring from Ruger last week and got it put back together.
Seems to work fine. While I was at it, I removed the rail and trigger assembly in an attempt to remove the magazine disconnect but could not get it out. A lip on the disconnect plate next to the trigger slot seemed to keep it captured and I didn't want to dis-assemble the trigger. All else seems to work fine now.
