Does anyone know with accuracy what year Ruger single actions changed from Walnut grips to Rosewood? And I need a set of Ruger grip medallions, seems the prior owner removed them and added some of his liking, however the size appears to be the same. Thanks for your time. 12:07am July 4th, I found a date of 1994, for the change. Still need medallions.

Welcome to the Forum!

The change of the wood type escapes my memory. But I do know that Ruger used different types over a lot of it's history.

As for the medallions,, that'd be a lot easier to nail down a timeframe if we knew when the gun was made. If you don't know when,, then if you post a serial number,, or at least a partial number,, such as 31-123XX we can get the year of mfg, and then know what medallions would be correct.

There you have it on the Rosewood question. Medallions are pretty easy to find and there is almost always multiple options listed on ebay but I've always had good luck just posting a "WTB" here once you know which ones you are after for your grips.

Didn't they go to goncalo alves in the 1980's before "rosewood"?

They called them African rosewood but they were really bubinga, not in the rosewood family.
