I picked up a wal-mart rifle in excellent condition. I love the feel and balance of the gun but I really don't like stainless rifles.
Is this a collectable gun or would it be OK to spray and bake it?
If it is collectable what would it be worth. I'm into for $150, I'm pretty sure its worth more than that just as a shooter.
Thanks for your help in advance.

If you're talking about a 10/22, the only Walmart models I know about that are somewhat "collectable" are the models with the black and gray (some say green) laminated stocks.

The other 10/22 Ruger produced as a Walmart exclusive was a stainless rifle with a checkered sporter stock made from beech or birch, and wearing a 22" barrel with open sights. The first few years they had silver-colored trigger groups and before the Ruger Eagle marking went away, the receivers were marked "10/22 Rifle" instead of the usual "10/22 Carbine"

Later they receivers lost the Eagle, were marked carbine and had black trigger housings.

The original exclusive, new in the box, would be a nice thing in any 10/22 collection but they were not really limited in numbers, other than sales. RENE might be able to speak to actual numbers but they are not particularly rare.

Around here, a used rifle would maybe fetch between $25 and $50 more than a standard SS carbine sitting next to it. New in the box, I'd expect at least $100 more in asking price between the two.

I wouldn't intentionally mess up either one. Sure , they might have made a lot of them but you dont see many of either for sale very often.

9x19,
I have the 10/22 rifle as well. It would take more than an extra hundred to get me to sell mine! I put a true stainless Weaver K4 on mine and its one of the more accurate 10/22's ive seen. It shoots every bit as good as my target model did.

9x19,

I have one of those as well. While I consider them desirable I would in no was consider them collectable. That was bentblade's question. I was trying to spur a response to find out what he really has. So far nothing.

Thanks for the response guys.
My rifle is like the one above but with the black trigger group. I like the way the gun handles but havent actually shot it yet.
I expect it to be a good shooter like all of my RUGER 22s.
Im just not fond of stainless rifles.
This one will probably stay as it is except for the trigger.
