Just picked up a used 10/22 today and Im not sure what I have. It has a birch sporter stock with a black rubber butt pad.
The finish is stainless with a 22'stainless barrel, rifle sights and a black trigger group.
The odd part to me is that the receiver appears to be painted silver which I think is normal for the stainless guns but it looks like it was done with the scope mount plug screws in the receiver.
The serial number has 259 pre fix which would put in 2007 production.
The receiver is marked Ruger 10/22. It does not say rifle which I have read that some do.
The gun looks new and I don't believe the prior owner put this rifle together or bought it used.
My first guess would be a Walmart gun. Any other guesses?
I paid $150.
What do I have and what would it be worth?
Thanks

If it shoots OK, you got a bargain. Don't look a "gift horse" in the mouth. If it's a dog, move it on to someone whose intention is a "makeover".

The early Wal-Mart specials like yours were marked "10/22 Rifle" but they also had the anodized receiver and stainless-color metal trigger housings.

The later guns are as you described.

A good price regardless, enjoy it!

So Ruger makes a different style of gun just for Walmart?

They've made several Wal-Mart exclusives over the years... the stainless/grey laminated stock 10/22 models in both standard carbine and international versions were first built for Wal-Mart.

They have a Black and Stainless model for $254 that I've been eyeing for awhile?

Model #1149
Catalog # K10/22-22
Walmart exclusive until 2009 until Ruger revoked the agreement...now a Lipseys exclusive. Still in production as far as I know.

Your description is right for a 2007 gun as I believe Ruger stopped rollmarking this model with the "Model 10/22 Rifle" rollmark about that time.

See the RENE for all the details!

Great buy...
