Well, Sept 29th and its full blown wide open Christmas at Walmart. And Home Depot. And Lowes.AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH

I CANT STAND IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still a month to Halloween to think of and plans to be made for Thanksgiving.

Used to nothing ever came out till Thanksgiving and the tree lots would open the day after.

Is it just me or am I just being an old sour grump ?

I am so tired of it by the time it gets here from everything being out so early. Heck why dont they just put it out July 4th

A local radio station started playing Christmas music 24-7 on Saturday morning. I couldn't believe it. Luckily, it turned out to be a stunt as they changed their format from "modern pop" to "classic rock," and it only lasted through the weekend.

Which reminded me: "Oh, and by the way babies......BOOOOOOOGER!" :lol: (Let's see who gets that.) 8)
 
That would be Doctor Johnny Fever along with Les, Bailey, Travis, Venus, Mr. Carlson and Jennifer....(and the twins :wink:) .
 
And yes, I am sick of this Christmas nonsense before Halloween......... :x
On a similar note....went to wally world last week and picked up a pair of shorts for when I work in or around the pool. Decided I liked them so went back last evening to get a couple more pair....and what do I find? Rack after rack of winter clothing. Heavy coats, flannel lined jackets, cold weather gloves, scarves, watch caps and insulated stuff of all description........it was 94 degrees outside. Yeah, some college boy/girl at corporate is doin a fine job getting that seasonal inventory changed out.....NOT!
And do I find any shorts? Only on a single round rack marked "Clearance".........which was filled to the brim with clothes that were either size small or XXL.............. :x
 
Wife and I do not do Christmas.
It starts in Sept. now and runs through January with after Christmas sales.
That's 4 months of buy buy buy greed greed greed.
Well, that and the only thing I hate more than marching band music is Christmas music.
We spend time with our son and his family and grandkids and let everyone else go nuts.

Christmas shopping - NOT !

I do only three things for Christmas:

* Mail out Christmas cards to those friends & relatives that we haven't seen for awhile.

* Midnight mass on Christmas Eve with my immediate family

* Christmas dinner with all my extended family.

I've said for years there ought to be a law (tongue in cheek of course) that it should be illegal to have any Christmas decoration out before Thanksgiving. Now, bringing them out this early may not be too smart as, from what I've heard, Halloween is the second biggest holiday next to Christmas for sales of decorations and such. I would think they wouldn't want the possible sales competition between the two holidays.

I started doing Christmas gifts when ever they are needed, about thirty years ago.
That is to say if the person needs something now, buy it for them. Then, when
Christmas gets here, they have what they needed WHEN they needed it and the
calendar can get lost. We just have a nice Christmas dinner and skip the stupid
"christmas shopping" with it's associated mob scenes.

My folks (both now passed on) really liked that and my daughter is slowly beginning
to understand. The only "problem" with that is my great grand son (now just over
two) and what he thinks about Christmas. I'll go along with regular Christmas for
him, for the next ten or so years, then explain it to him. :wink:

It's AMAZING the sales you can find when it's NOT Christmas. :shock:

Yeah; I noticed Wally world had the xmas stuff out already. I was going to buy a two piece swim suit, BUT all they had was the bottom parts on clearance and NOT my size.
 
First off,, I buy gifts for the family all year, keep them and have them ready when a birthday or Christmas rolls around. To heck with all their sales hype.
And as for the stores displaying & pushing a certain holiday stuff,, before other holidays have even come & gone,, well, I ignore them completely.

Maybe I'll exercise my meager opinion with a polite letter to these companies expressing my disgust at their attitude,, and how it makes me NOT want to buy from them.
 
The law here states that anybody that plays Christmas music before November can be killed and their body can be used for Halloween decorations... :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

That's part of why I do not wait until a holiday/birthday. If it is an item they need,
what happens if they go out and buy what they need for themselves? Either the
person ends up with duplication, or you get to return the item (IF you can).

All of this is a carry-over from being a little kid and coming to . . expect . . a bunch
of gifts for the occasion. When you give the items as they are needed, and then
make the day "special" with friends and family gathering, including a good meal,
then you celebrate the event and not the gifts.
 
I guess I'm the odd man out, and maybe part of the crowd that the stores direct their (probably) early marketing to. Halloween stuff has been out for a month or better. Gives me lots of time to get the yard and house ready for the neighborhood kiddies, for their night. Spring fashions and garden stuff hits the shelves in January. But that gives me hope that Spring will be here. Dank, dark, wet winters get awfully long, and uplifting is necessary.

Christmas...yes, the marketing gets ridiculously earlier, but I love Christmas and everything about it. The traditional Christmas shows on TV, the Christmas music on the radio, Christmas decorations, all of it.

I remember a long time ago, I was young, I was a long way from home, I was lonesome, and thoughts of my uncertain future were very foremost. I'd go to the PX just to see the Christmas displays. I didn't have any money to buy anything, but seeing the Christmas stuff in the PX just gave me some peace. Call it dumb, and it probably was. So, although the displays are unseasonably early, at the same time I'm still a boy when I see Christmas stuff, even if it's early.

I think too, stores take advantage of melancholy moods that surface during Christmas. Christmas rekindles many memories of a lifetime. I remember that after the war, my Dad really never got "right". And as a result, our family severely struggled, financially. This was so obvious to a young person at Christmas. So I guess I made up for it with my family, and probably went way overboard. But I have such great Christmas memories, I never want Christmas to go away. If it comes early, I'm okay. Apparently it's disgusting to a lot of folks. I'd hope these folks could just ignore it.

Problem is that like many laws it is never enforced...and that's a shame.
 
I got burned out on Christmas years ago by working for a Santa/Easter Bunny photo company.
Nine months its all Santa with three months of Easter thrown in.
Shipping and receiving all the stuff, sending costumes out for cleaning/repair, refurbishing the cameras inventorying supplies and ordering new, logistics, etc.
While the Santa stuff is coming in you are getting ready for Easter.
A couple years of that and you never want to see a Santa or Bunny again.

I agree ! I once worked in an office that played all Christmas music over the PA system. I swear, that radio station played 147 different versions of "Little Drummer Boy". :shock: :evil: :shock: :evil: :shock: :evil:

I finally had to bring in a pair of shooting muffs after taking it as long as I could.
