There is a lot of comment that a VQ sear is well worth the money. Some years back, I bought one. Compared to a factory sear, the face is finished to a much smoother finish - at least the one I have is.

Why is a VQ trigger an advantage? Is there some fit and finish benefit or is it simply that the pre/post travel screws are externally adjustable?

Thanks,

The the adjustments for take-up and overtravel are not the only differences, although they are the major factors. The trigger return spring with the VQ trigger is lighter, as well.

You should get the VQ hammer as well, as the surface where it engages the sear is also much slicker than the factory hammer.... although years of mating with the factory hammer may have marred the surface on the VQ sear.

Be sure to consider the newer stainless trigger. Seems to be only available direct from VQ, or through Brownell's so far. Both screws externally accessible, and a different contour. I have it in my Mark III and really like it. Another long-term benefit is that it will outlast the aluminum Ruger or VQ triggers. I have heard of a few pivot holes wearing with excess play.

I installed a VQ stainless target trigger, target hammer, and hammer bushing on my Mk II. Got the trigger adjusted to minimal pre and over travel. That alone was worth the upgrade. Trigger pull is still at 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 pounds, but has much less creep and breaks very nicely. The trigger coutour also allows a more natural finger placement than the Ruger trigger.

There still seems to me to be some extra play in fit of the trigger and hammer on their respective pins. The VQ bushing measured very closely to the Ruger OEM bushing and was not a noticably less sloppy fit on the pin or in the hammer.

All in all, a worthwile upgrade. Thanks for the guidance and instruction.
