Just saw a used Vaquero 44 Special, blue w/ 3 5/8 barrel and black plastic grips at the Glendale, AZ Cabela's. Didn't think Ruger was still producing Vaquero's (not New Vaq) when the 44 Special was introduced.

It appears that some of the New Vaqueros are being labeled as Vaqueros. Not sure if this is only specific to those chambered in 44 spcl, or if this also occurs on the 357s and 45s.
the 44spcl is being built on the medium frame (same size as the New Vaquero).
assuming it is in factory configuration and you have trouble identifying the medium frame from the large frame there are a few other things that identify the gun as being a medium frame gun.
you can look at the grip frame and see its a steel version of the xr3, probably equipped with a lock...........the large fram Vaquero had an xr3-red frame and no lock.
you can also look at the base pin........the medium frame revolvers don't have a collar on the base pin handle..........the large frames do.
There's also a prefix on the serial # that defines the medium frame guns, but I don't know that one.
