Vaquero .44 mag

Just bought a 2003 Vaquero .44 mag. I can only fully chamber rounds in 2 cylinders. The other 4 are 1/16th short of seating. The gun is in near mint condition. Anybody else have similar problem.

Maybe it has been shot a lot with 44 spl loads and there is a build up in the cylinders.

Welcome to the forum. Rumrunner could be right. Clean the cylinders well, and try again. If still a no go, it is time to call Ruger.

Thanks for the help. Just a vigorous cleaning of a gun that appears to have been taken care of(only scratches anywhere are very light, on the butt). A little light pressure 2 or 3 times and good to go. I fired in a .44mag of a friend's of mine and remembered 1st time they had to be "snapped" into the chamber.

Most Rugers will allow ammo to drop right in without any pressure at all. Besides the "special crud ring" mentioned above, it could also be bad combo of tight throats and too much of a shoulder on the bullets. What ammo were you using?

Tried American Eagle 240gr and Hornady 300gr HP.

The front sight is flat, not rounded like most I've seen before. Is this a running change or modification?

Sounds like someone adjusted it. I bet the 240 shoots closer to POA, and the 300 may be a tad high. You have a nice gun.

It was filed to raise the point of impact onto the ctr of target with the loads that were being used. If it shoots high with your loads, you'll need a taller front sight blade.

If it's close enough with your loads, just finish the front sight by filing it back to the correct shape. Just don't take anymore off the top.

Bear Paw and Hondo44 thanks for your help. Just got this beauty from Red's Trading, somebody took extremely good care. I don't know how it could have been used at all with no more signs of wear.
