Va Rocket Launch! Now ISS

just saw the rocket cross the NC sky. It rose above the NE tree line about 2 minutes after launch. about NEE saw the flame out and ~90 seconds latter the second stage lite off and it cross to the EES and then went back below the tree line

Looked to the NE and didn't see it. Too close to the tree line to see it.

It did not launch at 19:40. I also waited for 5 minutes, thinking I couldn't see it. went into the house, googled and find live feed showing it in the last seconds of count down, thus step back out and caught it.

It probably peaked a good 10 to 15 degrees above the horizion for me (south of Raleigh NC)

I've never personally seen a big rocket launch but did fire one myself many years ago. A LAAWS rocket that is. LOL.

Vandenberg is on the coast above Santa Barbara. You could see those launches for a 100+ mile radius. Got some good pictures somewhere lots of great colors combined with the setting sun and smog. Living in Lancaster you probably got to see a lot of wierd stuff being flown out of Vandenberg,

Just this year, I also saw my first rocket launch while visiting Florida. By the time I figured out where to be looking, it was already so high that the rocket plume was all we could see, with a huge smoke trail. If a feller lives in Florida, it's likely he's seen dozens of launches, so maybe it's not a big deal. But to me, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I built the warheads for the Minuteman III missile in the early 70s. The Air Force sent me to Vandenberg for numerous test shots...I saw Minuteman, Atlas, Titan, Agena and some other missiles being shot,,it was quite the sight.

growing up in the cold war era, I was told that the smoke trail would be the last thing youd see before daylight disappeared forever......since then, it scared me so much I don't look at them anymore. honest.

Just watch the International Space Station pass DIRECTLY over the house. the thing was as bright as could be as it rose from the SW untill it fell into the shadow about 20 degrees above the NE horozan.

Intersting in that the predicted observation for my location shouldn't have it crossing directly over but more to the west

Almost as much fun as being TDY at "Sea Range" on the coast of the Yellow Sea in Korea; The practice range where various Batteries came down to practice firing Hawk Missiles or Nike Hercules missiles.
That said, I HAVE seen a Space shuttle launches from on the coast and also from Orlando along with some Atlas launches.

My claim to fame here is I saw Apollo 11 launch.....in person.....and have a picture taken from the small
plane I was flying of it rising over the pad. A very SMALL picture as those were the days pre digital pics.
That was an interesting day to say the least!
Would you believe Air Force 3 got lost? On the coast of Florida? Yep..........very embarrassing!
Well, ok, they just missed the correct airport by 20 miles....not really lost....just missed the airport...
that's not really lost is it??????? Sure would have loved to be a fly on the wall of that cockpit!

Small world, I worked in one of the R&D labs at Boeing working on the Minuteman before it went operational.
