Are their single action 45s as strong as the Ruger? Or would one have to load down like shooting a Colt?

I believe they are proofed in the same manner as regular colts. I take it to mean no Ruger level loads. Anything safe in a Colt SA will be OK in the USFA.

Those of us who shoot Ruger Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks and Contenders have been known to reload our ammo hotter than factory loads (sometimes MUCH hotter). The warning is for those of us, not people who buy factory ammo or reload to factory specs......

It is generally understood that this applies to Old Models as well, and means that "only SAAMI-spec ammo is acceptable". There is no SAAMI spec for ammo identified as "+P .45 Colt" or the "Ruger only" stuff. The Ruger lawyers insist on such limitations in their documentation.
Other manufacturers likely have similar thoughts. What you do with your gun is your responsibility.

Since everyone got off on a tangent... The answer is yes the Ruger is stronger. And yes you would have to load "down" to standard .45 Colt Sammi specs.
The original question was relative to USFA and Standard Manufacturing single action guns:
