Long story short but have this heavy box 83 lbs. worth of Ford 9 inch rear center section to be shipped UPS Ground to Florida. Called the local UPS Store which is just around the corner to see if open today which they were. This is a private owner store not a UPS shipping center and when I unload the beast and set it up on the counter...the little 90 lb. darling informs me they only process AIR Freight on Saturdays and not Ground and come back on Monday. #####!!! I say and tell her if I "F" up my back loading this thing to take back home....see you in court!
What the Sam Hill is up with these folks in the year 2017??? Might as well not open the darn store on a Saturday!!
FedEx all the way from now on!

Well it could have something to do with UPS online system since they don't deliver on Saturdays like FedEx does.
Anyway you'd be ticked off too if you made a trip for nothing loading and unloading an 80 lbs. box!

Hi,

I appreciate your aggravation!

However, I'm always amazed by the complaints when people fail to take one simple step with their shipping: CALL the shipper you will be using (and if, for example, that's a UPS store, call them, NOT the big UPS hub which may have completely different answers to the same questions) and find what their policies, procedures, regs and prices are, BEFORE throwing your back out and losing your sense of humor. Decades ago in another life as a disgruntled postal employee, we ran into this every day. Little technicalities which would be easy to overcome with proper planning led to a lot of ill will, on both sides of the counter.

I did call the UPS store around the corner and they said open for business so you could assume you could ship common Ground or at least process the item so I could leave it there.

A FedEx hub is down the road another few miles so if cost is about same I'll take it there on Monday....my option! Most folks ship Ground so common sense would say if we can't take folks Ground shipments on Saturdays just stay closed!
Another thing..I asked if they had a banding machine, the hand operated type cause I would like to put a band around it for good measure. Little darling said yes but I haven't been trained on how to use it!!!

I am at work now...why? In case a customer needs equipment replaced I can ship it. By air. They do not pick up ground shipments on Saturday.
That said the clerk could have processed your shipment and it would have gone out late Monday.
An 86 lb package is kind of expensive via UPS.
You may want to consider using a freight carrier.

The guy that bought the unit paid for ground shipping to Florida and from there he has a shipper lined up to send it to him in Australia. So it has a long journey to travel.
Yeah I don't understand why she couldn't have processed the shipment so I could leave there insured.

I went to the UPS store to ship a scope back to the manufacturer for repair. BRand ne Minox and the crosshairs would not adjust. Two women running the place. Asked to have them kake up a box and insure it for $600. (cost of the scope) As soon as they realized it was firearm related they would not package or ship it. A scope mind you. :x Some of the four letter expletives from their pie holes was something to hear. Guess they either didn't like gun or hunting.
So I go to the UPS hub and they would not do it as well. Had to go way cross town during rush hour to FEDEX and they packed it and shipped it for me. I did file a complaint against both the store and the hub but since it's been almost a year now, I guess they threw my complaint into file 13. I'm done with them.

The UPS truck only picks up air packages on Saturday from a UPS store. The UPS store should have explained it a little better, she could have taken your package and held it until Monday.

The UPS stores are a joke. A while back I bought a gun online. Seller sent it in a plastic hardcase. No box just the hardcase. For whatever reason he wanted this POS walmart special of a case returned to him. He sent me a prepaid label.

Pain for me to deal with but the UPS store is on the way to work. I slap the label on the case and go to drop it off. As I am walking in the door of the UPS store the counter monkey stops his conversation with another customer and rushes at me. Going into a tirade how UPS does not ship guns.

Well I got a 150 pounds on the idiot so I keep walking in. We wisely kept backing up. I proceeded to the other employee behind the counter. Whole while other guy is running his mouth trying to stay between me and the counter.

I explain to the other employee that the case is empty it is a prepaid dropoff I want a receipt. Other guy is still running his mouth. Not about just regulations but the evils of guns in general that they will not be responsible for.Going on about three minutes now. I had enough. I turned to the idiot and not so politely told him to shutup and where he could stick his rules and regulations about shipping guns as those rules do not apply to a empty plastic box.

He did shutup. Until I was walking out. Then he was mumbling something under his breath I could not make out.

Funny thing the whole time I was in the store my 1911 was in plain view. I carry owb usually with a light cover shirt unbuttoned over my t shirt. Spilled soda on it earlier so I took it off to dry. My state allows open carry so while I don't make a practice of it I do occasionally skip the cover shirt or just plain forget to put it back on.

Guessing he did not see the gun. If he had I am sure he would of instantly been on the phone requesting SWAT.

Your business your rules fine. I can live with that. Being a rude jackass that wants to rant and rave instead of explaining things to me and getting the facts of the situation, not going to put up with that.

This week I ordered my arthritis medication from my speciality pharmacy, since it is so expensive it is shipped signature required. They shipped it ups. My wife was home all day waiting, no delivery. Called the pharmacy, ups said that they tried to deliver but no one answered at 954 am, bull! No nock, no doorbell rung, no sorry we missed you note. Called and complained to ups, local supervisor said she could not dispute that the driver came by or that my wife was there the whole time, said that they would try the next day. Called pharmacy and told them that from now on I would not take ANY ups deliveries. I waited and when the ups driver brought the package the next day I gave her a piece of my mind about lying about coming by the day before and that she would not have to worry about anymore deliveries to my house in the future!

I bet more packages go air than ground.

Just curious, what did it cost to ship 86 pounds to FL?

109 bucks including insurance and double that if I had sent it Air on a Saturday!

Personally, I stay away from UPS stores. They're privately owned and their management is hit and miss. Nowadays I do everything USPS.

What do you buy from Hawaii?

My brother had a custom 1911 made from some gunsmith, I believe he was in Hawaii (the gunsmith that is.) That was about 10 years ago I think. When I heard the 1911 was guaranteed for life by this maker, I asked how good the health was of the gunsmith. Nobody appreciated my humor. Valid question though.

Well to end my story... Stopped by same UPS store and this other lady took care of getting it shipped out.
She told me the "new" girl could have processed my package on Saturday and it would have been picked up today. I asked about the banding machine and she said they don't have one where the new girl said we have one but she wasn't trained to use it.
Oh well it's on the way to the land down under!
