Upper camblock pin fix? SR9C

I am the proud new owner of a SR9C. I had read issues of the upper camblock pin rattling out when the slide is locked back. Sure enough I got one that has a loose camblock pin. It actually fell out twice while shooting the first box of ammo. No big deal, I put a square of electrical tape on it and it works as it should.
I would like for it to not fall out at all though. I searched and didn't see any fixes for it. I thought about lightly coating it with archery string wax so it sticks in the frame and camblock. I don't want to use loctite as it may melt the polymer.

Does Ruger offer pins that are a few thousanths oversize?
What have you guys done to fix this issue?

I'd rather not send in the gun if I don't need to but the tape has to go.

Otherwise, this thing shoots great. Accurate, feeds and fires flawlessly. I have a IWB holster on the way and love this pistol.

Congrats on the new 9c. I had mine move a bit (never came out) and the blue locktite fixed the problem for good. It will not melt or even phase the polymer frame. If you want a larger pin you may try calling and asking, but chances are you'll need to send in for that.

There is a small spring like retainer between the frame and the camblock part 31 on the parts diagram. That engages the grooves in the two camblock pins. I assume you have the pins in correctly. Put them in so that the groove in the pin is on the left side of the gun. If the pin is in correctly remove the pin that has been walking out on you and look in the hole from the left side of the gun. See if you can see the retainer in the hole looks like a piece of wire. If you can see it take a small screwdriver or pick and bend the retainer a little bit into the hole. Usually the slight bending will put more tension on the pin. If you cannot see the clip you have a bigger headache.

The retainer may be missing or not in the right place. I encountered this after removing all the internals including the camblock on my SR9. It comes out as one unit. Upon reassembly the retainer just sits in a little groove in the camblock. Real easy to for the retainer to pop out of the groove as you slide the camblock into the frame. If this is the case you will need to strip the pistol to look for the retainer. If it is out of place I got mine to stay were it needed to be with a glop of heavy grease to hold it as I reassembled.

As for oversized pins Ruger only offers one size. The pins and pin hole are pretty sloppy tolerances hence the retaining piece to take out the slack.

What Mike said. You'll need to either get new retaining spring for the problematic pin, or adjust it so it can firmly lock the pin in. Also make sure the pin is inserted properly. On all the frame pins for the fire control parts and camblock, the grooves should all be on the left side.

The only pin held in place that uses friction in the frame is for the Mag Release. The remaining frame pins use some sort of retaining device.

JHearne, have you had any problems with your mag release pin? Mine was installed all the way to the left at the factory but hasn't moved or caused any problems.

Yes, but only because I've removed my pin at least three times. Once for the detail strip I've done with photos, another for video and once again for the Galloway release button.

The general consensus is that once broken loose, the pin can drift easily afterwards when firing. The best solution if that ever occurs is blue loctite. However, with yours not being an issue, it's best to not worry until you have to remove it, if ever. Being flush on one side or the other isn't anything to worry about, they just drove it flush and left it there. No need to center it or anything.

The retaining spring was slightly out of place, it is fixed now though. Thank you for the advice. It now holds VERY tight.
