Update your phone number!

Here we go again . . . . . :roll:

I just got a text message, ostensibly from Google, to "UPDATE YOUR
PHONE NUMBER!" . . . Oh joy. :roll:

Being an ever increasing skeptic, I first went to Google to see what search
results there would be (internet search vs cell phone search). What did I
find? That it is yet another ploy to get your information dispersed to yet
another location.

I have been ignoring the daily "request" from Twitter for that information,
so I guess it should not surprise me that other entities are trying for the
same information (the only reason I use Twitter is to see what the
President has to say, WITHOUT it being filtered by someone else).

This one was not the standard google logo nor any variant of that, I've
seen. Not sure if it was actually from Google or not, but either way, they
are NOT getting me to supply the information. I have enough trouble with
robo calls and unwanted phone solicitations on my "home" phone, I sure
as (delete your favorite expletive from here) am not going to give out my
cell number to anyone I do not know. You do what you like, I'm not going
to waste my time with another source of sales calls.

When I get suspicious texts or robocalls, I just block the phone number. It's been working good so far and stopped a few repeat offenders.

That works well until you get robo-calls. With the robo-call, the number
shown on caller id is NOT the number they are calling from. About two
months ago I got multiple calls from one source, with FOUR different
numbers shown on caller id.

Just blocking them by number, would have been fruitless. :shock:

You are missing a perfect opportunity to help the community. Make sure you have the local phone of your congress critter handy. Use that whenever you can to help direct phone traffic their way. They, and the FCC, have the power to really stop garbage calls. A phone # of the state Governors office might work too.

I was getting 10 or more robocalls a day on my cell phone. Blocking them does little good. A local TV station had a news story about a cell phone app called nomorobo that claims to block 98% of robo calls, the app costs $1.99 per month. I tried it and it works as advertised!

Had a robo call last night. Picked up on fourth ring and voice said "please hold while our trained representatives are assisting other callers". I mean, really!
