universal or tight group..?

mostly mild loads in .41 mag with 210 jacketed bullets. Some loads with 170 jacket bullets. Would one of these powders be "better" than the other in accuracy or some other significant characteristic? I am leaning towards Universal because it shows lower velocities for the 170 gr loads. Both seem to occupy about the same volume in the case and both are a little low in volume to really make me happy. Is there a better choice than one of these?

I have used both in 41 Mag and Special, but mainly with cast bullets. Universal is cleaner in my opinion but you will use a little more powder than Titegroup for similar velocities.

For mostly mild loads with regular or slightly heavy bullets it is be hard to beat Universal. You can load it up or load it down with good results. It meters well because it is a flake powder. It burns clean and smells good, kinda like apples.

Universal is my "go to" powder. I'm a converted Unique user.

Meters great, yields good load density in most apps, versatile and clean. An excellent all around powder.

I think Universal would be a great choice for mid level, or a bit less, in the 41 mag.

You must watch PRESSURE, using TG the pressure will be higher than UNIVesal.

ACTUALLY, those are a poor choice of projectiles for your desired level of performance. Why waste JHP's with semi-popgun loads ?! Hard cast projectiles are lots cheaper, can do ALL you ask for, and will do it without ever having a JHP stuck in the BBL from a low pressure load, from which you, YOU , will learn many new swear words. AND don't you think for a second that scenario cannot happen !!

Thanks for the comments. Is there still a chance of sticking a bullet if loads are above the Hodgdon data minimums?

I have 1000 or more jacket bullets I was given for this caliber. Plus I bought 1000 Rem JSP's for about .08 cents apiece a couple of years ago. Lead bullets seem to list for .15 to ,35 cents each, I will have to buy them to shoot them so I am okay with "wasting" jacketed bullets. I am not okay with sticking a bullet.

I am not trying to get down to cowboy special loads. I just want something a bit softer than the Lil gun loads. I like the midrange of both the Universal and Tightgroup loads. Is there a problem with jacketed bullets at these levels?

Midrange loads with those 110gr jacketed bullets using Universal or Titegroup are no problem at all with any normal gun as long as you are between Start and Max.

...but for those 170gr jacketed bullets there is no data I can find for Universal or Titegroup. There is a gas checked 165gr bullet with Titegroup but it is still over 1000fps with 7.0gr. But just to shoot up some bullets you might try Universal or Titegroup aroungd 6.0gr to start, being very careful, and see how it shoots and go from there. That's what I would do.
