How hot is it?
About an hour ago, I heard an explosion nearby. Making a quick check of the house/shed, I noted a stack of mounted tires toppled over. Looking closer, I discovered one was blown--shredded is a better description. Now this wasn't a raggedy old worn out tire but a 50% tread just taken off the pickup spare.
Yes, apparently is that hot.

I had a tire with well under 1000 miles do that. 255/60-15 mounted on a factory wheel. Big boom. I went to investigate and there was carbon black all over the shop floor. The tire looked like it had a huge rip about 10-12” long. BFG radial.

98 to 101 on the Louisiana state line with humidity about 90. It is unbearable! A lot more rain than usual for this time of year. I mowed 3 times in 7 days to get the yard looking decent.

When I came in about an hour ago, the only dry spot was my jean legs where they hang outside my boot tops. Leather belt was wet through except the tailend past the buckle.
A/C isn't working very well on the baler tractor--mostly just lowers the humidity.

And our nights have also been mild - only a couple of nights when the low temperature didn't go down into the 70s.

Only last week did overnight temps start to stay at 80+. I remember some summers seeing 86 before daybreak. I am guessing 2010?

Looks like it was 2009, 2011, 2018 in recent history. Those were the years of 85+ overnight and 110-ish during the day.

The Lake doesn't really make it all the way west but the point is well taken. Speaking of the Red River, Sivells Bend seems to have an effect on certain types of rain storms in certain times of year. A storm coming in from the northwest at Gainesville will sometimes turn straight east when it gets to the bend.

I will start this by saying I'm trying not to complain, others have it much worse. This has been a strange summer for me, no other quite like it. We have constant rain, so of course the grass grows like crazy, I mow a little over an acre. I have sprayed for weeds & such but the water grass takes over and it's so thick and is always too wet to mow, but you do mow because you have to and then you are in for an hour of jacking the mower up and cleaning out the deck. Sure wish I had bought a different zero turn with a deck in front that you could tip up to clean. Last night my mower was so plugged up but would still run so I finished. I hate it when you are abusing equipment but ya just about have to.

But, we haven't had a flood, live on high ground, and no wind damage yet, so I will just shut up and thank heaven for what I have.

Alaska is my kind of place. Once you get used to the cold a sweatshirt will get you buy. I think its hit the 70’s (low 70’s) 7 times this summer. Virtually no one has AC, don’t need it. My sister and her husband had it figured out. They live in Phoenix in the winter and Montana in the summer. I can handle winter just fine.

93 degrees, 60% humidity. I can't figure out how you guys in the east and south can handle this business. I long ago made myself a promise I would never live east of the Mississippi River, and so far that has worked. I once caused an issue between the two partners that owned the company I worked for because one wanted me to move to Chicago and the other wanted me to stay in Des Moines. Des Moines won, and I was so thankful, I didn't want to quit.

My body does not handle humidity well. Every year it gets like this in July and August and I have many times declared I prefer winter - you can always put more clothes on, but are limited in how much you can take off.

Hope you southerners and easterners have ways to cool down.

There are plenty of places west of the Mississippi that are just as bad. I am in E Texas, probably 350 miles from the MIssissippi. Temp is 98 with humidity of about 42%. Absolutely miserable outside. I had to mow my large yard a couple of days ago, I was up and mowing at 7am to beat the heat, and so I would have longer shade shadows as the sun started rising more.

I cannot remember how may days, tut summer of 2011 was awful here in E Texas, temps in low to mid 100teens. We had a grandson born the end of August and we actually delayed going over to Jackson, Ms to see him because of fire danger. There were wildfires everywhere and I was doing part time work in some nearby towns and smoke clouds were a constant, and I actually drove through some areas where the grass and low brush was burning. Fire jumped interstate 20 between Longview and Shreveport, La in a couple of places. I saw firefighting aircraft skimming on one lake to pick up water to use on fires. They closed the lake to any boating to make is safe for those aircraft.

It was 94 here today but the humidity was only 50% so it wasn't too horrible, I was out in the yard working on an old car I'm trying to get going for my daughter. After a couple of hours I came in, rinsed my eyes out & drank a bottle of water before I went back & finished. I was pretty much okay but the sweat was burning my eyes.
We've got to go back up on the roof at work this week. The guy I'm working for now will pull us down before lunch & have us do something downstairs the rest of the day. I've spent a lot of summers on roofs working 10-12 hours a day. I appreciate my boss.

I remember trying to go out and zero a new rifle a few years ago in those conditions, Sweat was running into my eyes so bad I had trouble seeing the sight.

Reminds me of a week we spent with my in laws just outside Macon,Ga in Lizella. They had bought a nice looking house, beautiful cathedral celings. Probably 8-10 inches of fiberglass insulating beween ceiling drywalll and roof decking, with no ventilation. Their ac unit was undersized and floor vents so hot air just kept filtering down, Miserable inside and worse outside. Never was so glad to get away from there.

Yesterday afternoon was brutal with temperature reaching 103 and humidity soaring until...

Temp dropped to 73 in less than an hour as a front moved through. Yes, it came a turd floater! I was on the golf course and by the time I got to the clubhouse and cleaned out the cart, I was soaked from head to toe to the skin.

Rain was very welcome as my water bill is going to be stupid this month. High of 90 today and tomorrow!!!

We are finally catching a break....high of 79 today the humidity is 83%.....if it wasn't for the rain it would be comfortable....back to high 90's this weekend and Lord knows where the humidity will be.....going to hit the range quickly in am and then cut grass immediately after......unfortunately the Wife made domestic socializing plans at a friends house with a pool...I despise sitting around a pool gabbing or much more getting in a pool (it's been about 30years) to play the little floaty games. I picked up a 1911 yesterday so I may just bring my stuff to fit the new trigger and mag release while they do their pool thing

At least the smoked ribs and cold beer will be good.

It's sort of amusing how folks appear to get into a measuring contest about weather where they live compared to other places. It's all relative folks.....

Went out to put the bird feeders up this morning and was shocked it was cooler outside than inside. It was 60 at 0630 with 73% humidity. Felt great.....now I'm off to the range to see how this new 1911 runs.

Lately weather here is 98 degrees and 90% humidity with heat index around 110 to 115. Yes, the humidity has been brutal. During winter and it 35 degrees, someone says I can't wait for summer. I remind them of how bad July and August are. Now we worry about hurricanes.

Cooler weather feels good. I put in 11 hours today making progress on the rod and pipe corral at the north farm. Running out of materials so one day next week will be a 'gofer' day. Need to finish there so we can start on more here at home. Renter is going to need to shuffle some September calving cows home in the next couple of weeks and we don't have a useable corral at the moment.
Son is going to help me do some repairs on my baler tomorrow. I had to do a temporary fix in order to finish baling last week but needs a proper repair before hitting the field again. No shortage of things to keep an old guy busy.

Weather is not relative. Some people have brutal weather and some do not. There is a reason why real estate in California is so high and it's not just taxes.

Dog and I went out on the sleeping porch last night and I had to get under a cover it was so cool.
Yesterday was a reminder of better days to come... I worked on laying brick from 8 until 5 (did take a hour break in the middle of the day) but it was cool all day long... or at least not dripping we hot... now I do have a large 35" fan blowing in my work area...
