1. People get a lot more angry come election times.

2. My wife and I have a LOT more disagreements when we start to build something. (Such as a house or a shop)

Lighten up folks. The dems will nominate "reset button" Hillary and they will loose the election BIG TIME

And I will get the shop built.

Possessing the wisdom of many years, I can give you the benefit of a couple things I have learned that you can add to your two.... and I'm certain there's a wealth of hard learned knowledge on this website.

"Yes, Dear." is a very useful phrase.... master it's use.
Don't pee into the wind.
Any project will require approximately twice the estimated time (and a 50% increase in monetary expenditure).

God I hope your right, and good luck on that shop.

I have learned that "You know, you are probably right!" is a VERY good way to end any heated discussion. Anything said, by you, after that is the beginning of the next 'heated discussion'.

Amen to both. This election season is going to be particularly awful when it comes to #1 and there's not much anyone can do about that unfortunately. The big money is going to determine the level of viciousness. It's already bad and it's going to get worse.

However, you can control #2 to some extent. Remember to love each other and not use harsh words, if you can help it, because nothing is worth wrecking your marriage - particularly when you're both working to accomplish something important. I'm not a preacher but I've listened to a few. Love and respect each other above all - because it takes two to tango and memories are long.

I'll add one more thing, if it involves plumbing, 3 trips to the hardware store will be required

As for the election I just hope it is a real Republican (not a rino that gets elected).

As for the second bit of wisdom. I hope your shop turns out well. You will get through it.

I bleed a lot, so a bandage "Factory" and a membership to the local emergency room would be in order :D ( and yes I have already done surgery on myself to repair a wound :D )

This isn't supposed to be the political part of Rugerforum - but I'd like to say something about the past few messages.

The thing that will influence the outcome in this election after all the Primaries are done is voter participation without candidates having to spend extraordinary sums of money on GOTV (Get-Out-The-Vote) efforts. GOTV is hugely expensive, risky and it often backfires.

If people want to avoid the worst outcomes they can imagine, the most important thing they can do is commit themselves right now to showing up at the polls for the rest of the Primary season and then again on election day later this year, I mean everyone. If 10% of people stay home because they're upset that their preferred person didn't get the nomination, losing is inevitable - and the only thing you'll be deciding by not participating is how *badly* you will lose.

I have already committed to vote in November. I do not know for whom yet, but that's an uncertainty I can accept. You should as well, and make sure all your friends, relatives and associates do too.

Everyone should remember that we're not just talking about the Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court. We're talking about the *rest* of the federal judiciary and the important staffing decisions at all of our myriad and tentacled Federal agencies, which are now the "fourth branch" of government. Please keep that in mind, because in many ways the latter categories are more important to people's daily lives than anything that happens immediately in the "big three" branches of Government.

Don't take your marbles and go home.

When it comes to building/remodeling my wife stays out of it as I have been the trade for decades. She knows any questions asked slow my progress and piss me off.
She is in HR, accounting and corporate taxes. I listen to her grips but offer nothing as I am completely ignorant to her field, as she is with mine. Occasionally she tells me of things her company wants to try and quiet often I can reply, "You/they cain't do that". Not bragging but I am usually right, and she agrees.
On my side, ole lady watches these home remodeling shows and comes up with ideas. It's only afterward, after being informed of work involved and cost does she see the light. I hate those shows, they never show the actual work involved in their creations and it sure ain't done by the hosts.
We tend to stick to what we each do best.
Last post before mine is right. IT is very important.

Advice from Woodrow Wilson Smith (Robert A. Heinlein) "If you are having an argument with your wife and find yourself winning, profusely apologize."

I learned the phrase "yes dear, you're right, I'm wrong, I'm sorry" years ago. I just haven't mastered the part where I sound sincere.

I have a better solution. Mouth closed with nothing emitting. Ignore a woman/wife and she will eventually get so damn mad that she just walks away. You know what, she has nothing to say when she comes back. No quotes, or quips. Nothing. Now what are you dealing with? A woman who has completely exasperated herself and has no recourse. Trust me it works when she is really pissed. Nothing you say can make it any better anyway so just be quiet. Hmmm.

I think 50% cost overrun estimate is being conservative. You do have to know when to snap the leash onto the dog and go for a loooong walk. I will not just let the wife win an arguement, just because she's the wife, but at some point, I'll stop argueing and walk the dog. I'll admit, the current dog is kinda on the lean side compared to past dogs...
