Getting a lot of likes, etc. on your tweets? Then at least you know the bots like you. Nobody else does, but what the hell, you're probably a bot yourself.

I wonder what it's like to know your self worth is determined by a computer program. :?: Turing rules.

A big chunk of those "likes," "retweets," and "followers" lighting up your Twitter account may not be coming from human hands. According to new research from the University of Southern California, up to 15 percent of Twitter accounts are in fact bots rather than people.

The research could be troubling news for Twitter, which has struggled to grow its user base in the face of growing competition from Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and others.

USC's researchers also highlight the benefits of some bots, writing, "many social bots perform useful functions, such as dissemination of news and publications…"

But the USC report also points to the downside of bots, saying, "there is a growing record of malicious applications of social bots. Some emulate human behavior to manufacture fake grassroots political support… [and] promote terrorist propaganda and recruitment."

I didnt go to night school. Whatsa Bot?

An artificial intelligence computer program that's designed to do various things on it's own without human intervention. There's tons of them all over the internet. Huge PITA.

I am am am not a bot bot bot. Wheeeeee! 01010101010

Serious question tho. It's not possible to prove you or I or anyone else are human over the internet. We just have to take each others word for it. And soon it won't be just via the internet, but also on the street. Brave new world right around the corner, but it may not be a human world.

Alan Turing was prophetic back in 1950 when he developed his test.

The Turing test is a test, developed by Alan Turing in 1950, of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. Turing proposed that a human evaluator would judge natural language conversations between a human and a machine that is designed to generate human-like responses. The evaluator would be aware that one of the two partners in conversation is a machine, and all participants would be separated from one another. The conversation would be limited to a text-only channel such as a computer keyboard and screen so that the result would not be dependent on the machine's ability to render words as speech.[2] If the evaluator cannot reliably tell the machine from the human (Turing originally suggested that the machine would convince a human 30% of the time after five minutes of conversation[3]), the machine is said to have passed the test. The test does not check the ability to give correct answers to questions, only how closely answers resemble those a human would give.

When you scroll down to the bottom of the index page and check out "Who is online" you will note several bots are always in play.

We are constantly monitored.

I've been getting a few calls that are computer generated that try to act like they're real people. One even had me fooled for a second. I would have hung up anyway if it was a person selling something.

A "Twitter" is a message sent by a TWIT (def: a silly annoying person : fool ).

The funny part is over in the political section there is an "annoying person" (a commander in chief) who likes to send out tweets to twits.
