Tomorrow makes 21 years w/o alcohol of any sort. Probably wouldn't have been able to say that if the previous election had gone the other way.

Congrats, Mobuck! The people who were born the day you quit are the people who can legally take their 1st drink tomorrow. I wonder how many lives it will destroy? Keep up the good work!

It doesn't always go that way. I flipped the switch like turning off a light and walked away. Some can't.
Two of my co-workers(married couple) have a Son who's on the road to destruction due to drinking. We talk about this nearly every time we're together and I offer what ever insight I can to try to help. It doesn't seem to be working and now the mid-twenties kid is a felon due to numerous DWI accidents/arrests/convictions.

I was taught at an early age to respect drinking. How in excess, it would cause problems. I was also taught that in moderation,, where YOU control it,,, an occasional drink was acceptable. While I can say that I did tie on a few drunken benders in my youth,,, I have not been drunk in over 28 years. And I can go months, & never touch a drink,,, or I can sit & enjoy a social drink or two with good friends. I've had folks who've known me a long time,,, yet thought I never took a drink.
I find it sad to see people who allow drugs or alcohol to take over & control their lives. I applaud those who recognize that demon,,, and beat it. So,,, as Mobuck celebrates today,,, I lift my glass,,,,,,,,, of my morning chocolate milk,,,, in a salute to him & all the others!

A little over 26 years ago I decided I needed to cut down on my drinking and get my wife back. Well, the best things that ever happened to me was I cut my drinking down to ZERO, thank you God, Bill W and Dr. Bob as well as a few hundred others, and I DID NOT get my wife back. Got someone much nicer as my SO now and met her at the same place.

I've got an unopened fifth of Jim Beam that's been in the back of a kitchen cupboard for 32 years. I wonder if it's gone bad or if it's nicely aged by now? It probably can't "age" in a glass bottle, right?

For those that know what a "special worker" is I can tell you that after managing the Intergroup office for two Counties for 12 years I have seen and heard almost everything. Bottom line is two things. You have to want to stop drinking and you need to admit you have a problem.

As a nurse I have dealt with patients that were alcoholics, and once in the hospital, didn't get their daily dose. DT's ensued etc. until 3 years ago, I have never dated anyone that was an alcoholic-I don't hang out in bars. Now I have dated two ladies, both I met at work, whom I found out several dates into the relationship were alcoholics. The first one I keep in touch with on the Internet, but haven't seen since October after she went into rehab. She won't commit to a time or place to meet. The second one is following the same pattern. She gets out of rehab tomorrow, will not be coming back to work. So sad. I am glad for those who have been able to quit, and have a productive life.
