I had Turnbull restorations do some bone charcoal case colored hardening on a couple 5.5" ROAs, then mounted some brass frames on them.

I think they turned out pretty nice! Got some custom box elder burl grips being made that have blues and tans in them, they are a couple month out though. A link to a sample of the box elder burl,

Here is a few pictures.

They look great, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the pics once they get their new shoes. Box elder burl makes some nice grips :D

Thanks guys, I will be just looking at these for a while.

Jim, I have six other pairs to dirty up for my SASS shooting needs.

Mike

Good for you. Also try and keep them out of the sun. My main match 3 screws that Turnbull did have faded big time

They looked like these when first done. Oh well now they look used.

Maybe some SPF 100 mixed in the gun oil

Turnbull gave me some pretty specific instructions to try and make the finish last, you are correct sunlight is the worst thing to expose them to, next was cleaning solvent which won't be a problem because I use Dawn and water for cleaning my cap guns.

Hey Rutcutter,
There is a Guy that goes by the name of Wasatch Lawman that has a pair of ROAs just like yours. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Did Turnbull put the clear coat on yours? Mine do not have it. I was afraid if I scratched it you wouldn't be able to fix it. All I use on my stuff is Ballistol.

My alter ego 8)

I am not sure about a clear coat, I know when I opened the box there was a strong smell of wax.

I will have to email their shop foreman and ask

Wasatch

Wow... just wow! Very nice looking ROAs. Must have set you back a bunch to have them done, but the results are simply fantastic.

I'm in West Point (Davis Co.), so if you ever need someone to go out and help you shoot them, look me up! :D

Bought these gun about a month ago at current market prices. Wanted these because they were sequential serial numbered, into the brass frames $650 or so, once I pay for the custom grips this project will come in right at about $3000

They are totally unique, bet the only pair like them in the world, which make them priceless to me...........Well maybe an offer for around $5G could get me to part with them

Yes, with the case hardening, brass frames, and Box Elder, I'm sure they'll be the only two of their kind.

They'll also become safe queen heirlooms, I suspect. You have enough shooters; these need to be kept perfect, no?

Still have some fine tune fitting of the brass frames. I will be sending the frames to the grip maker when he is ready to fit the grips. I will post up some more pics when the grips are done. Going to be a long two months

They will get shot, just not very often. I suspect the first outing will be to win the Frontiersman class at the 2014 Utah State SASS Championships next June. Got to think positive

Rutcutter,
Have you tried the Slick nipples yet? I'm still using Treso and get them to work with 18# springs and most of the time with 17#. So I gave up on the 17#s. Geo Baylor says he can get his to work with 15# and slick. That would make it nice. :D
I have chased the #1 in Texas State Frontiersman for several years. Just can't get there 2nd and 3rd is all. 1st in FC Duelist once. Have won FR in MO. and LA and regionals . The guy that beat me this year at State won at EOT. So now no hope for me. I can avg. 30- 32 sec. stages but not 26-28. :( :(
Lots of luck at UT. State.

Jim, I won this year and have either won or took second for the last five year. As long as you Texans stay in Texas I should have a good shot next year

I have settled in using Treso nipples and #10 Remington caps. I was having issues with Treso nipples and found they were making some batches a little long. Since figuring this out I have been running smooth, not one miss fire.......Hold on while I find some wood to knock on

Hey I gots an Idea. Why don't I send Yosemite Jim to your match. That way I can get him out of Texas :D
Well maybe I'll just saddle up and come. I looked at the web site and your range looks outstanding.

What springs are you using with the Tresos. All I use is Remmenton #10s 11s will also work and is what Treso recommends they are a little shorter
