Tried to sell my house today

Well....... kinda.

I'm out working at the farm and the phone goes off. Caller ID - Local town -- Possible spam. Due to my phone also being my business phone I tentatively answered in my usual wait 5 seconds and answer with the business name. That normally wipes out any spam. Just as I am about to hang up for no response they guy says "hello?"
So I answered. "Do you have the property at xxxxxx?"
"yes"
"are you interested in selling it?"
"Yes, for xxx (well over double market value) "
"how did you come up with that price?"
"I pulled it out of thin air just like you did my phone number."
"Well.... " and before he could finish his sentence I said "and it's non negotiable."
"non negotiable?"
"Yes"
"Oh ... Uh..... Goodbye."


Normally I don't get involved but I was annoyed by the call and also hot so I needed a little break. It was kind of fun.

I do that all the time! When I get the blind calls about burial insurance, my standard reply is "I'll be dead then...what do I give a crap about insurance???"

I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets annoyed with spam and pushy people wanting something from me.

Good job. Perhaps that guy will rethink his career choice and go get a real job.

I never answer any phone now that I'm retired.
If it's important, they'll leave a message, or my wife knows who it is and answers if necessary.
Being old and not giving a poop is a gift from God.

I have a rule to let them go to voicemail. Almost never leave a message. Haven’t been getting many lately, until I accidentally called one back. Disconnected right quick, then they called right back, so I thought maybe it’s legit. It wasn’t, I hung up while the guy (India accent) was still talking. Got about 15 calls the next day, from different numbers but same area code as mine.
I don’t recommend picking up….

I get mailings with offerings to buy my land,, or my timber. I replied to one a few years ago with an offer. It was 10 times the tax value of my land. And I then added that if they wanted the house,, it'd be an additional amount, 10 times the current market value. Never got a reply.

I have my phone set so that it does not ring unless it is a number in my contacts or that I have called. If it rings I know it is someone I might want to talk to. If it does not ring and there is no voicemail the number gets blocked. If there is a voicemail and I do not want to call back it gets blocked.
I am getting fewer unwanted calls.

I usually answer them if I'm not doing anything because I like to mess with them. I figure if I keep them on the line for 5 minutes, I probably saved someone from getting scammed. Anyway, one of the favorites is the final expense insurance. I let them give their initial spiel, and then they usually ask how old I am, and when I say 98, I hear..."click". Then there's the Medicare scam, where they're going to offer you a new Medicare plan that will provide $250 a month for food and a variety of other free benefits. I play like I'm some old senile guy, and then they get to where they want my medicare card number, and I start giving them my old zip code. Since they think they have a live one on the line, I've had a few of them on the line as long as 10 minutes trying to get that Medicare number. They'll finally get frustrated and hang up. Then there are a variety of other ones that want me to provide an address and phone number for whatever they're trying to scam me for, and I'll give them the address and business phone number of the PD I used to work at. I even had one that looked it up, while I was on the line, and figured out what the address was I had given him. That old boy cussed me up one side and down the other.

My dad's house had a few old growth black walnut trees on his property and he regularly got loggers to knock on his door offering to "take the trees away" really cheap.

Gads the SOB's not only wanted these trees FREE they wanted pop to pay them to "take them away"

My dad told them the trees were his retirement fund and they didn't have enough money to buy them!

I am not even retired yet and don't answer my phone. If they are not in my contacts list they can leave a message

My cell phone is my work phone several times a day I found myself making a snap judgment, do I answer this one or not?
If it's from out of state, the answer is generally no.

The people that do this must do all right, because they obviously keep doing it. I get a ton of them.

We get those calls frequently. For a while it alternated between the caller asking for me or Grouch Attack. One day, I was feeling a bit cheeky and when the obvious telemarketer caller asked for her, I answered "Oh, she died 6 months ago". C L I C K no more calls asking for her. :oops:

Around here, these offers come in the mail...they find your info on the county records website, send you a ridiculously low cash offer...I figure there must be some poor folks who actually go for this.

One of the main reasons I enjoy my Apple watch is that when these phone calls come in I can delete the call right from my watch and don't even have to take my phone out of my pocket.

Occasionally I have put something for sale on Facebook Marketplace (its free to use and has been mostly effective for me). I always state in the posting that if interested in the item, to call me, and that I do not respond to messages posted on the Marketplace app itself. I still don't answer the phone when I see an unfamiliar number, and I assume that if they are really interested they will leave a voicemail message.

We have some land we are trying to sell with an agent.

And we too got a letter asking to buy it. They were even offering the current price. BUT! They wanted to close in 6 months.

I asked the agent, the catch is this. Yes, they put down a small deposit for Ernest money, to close in 6 months. We would have to take the land off market for that time. Meanwhile, they would be actively trying to sell it for more.

If they do, great, they buy from us and the same day close to their buyers. If they don’t sell it, they are out a small deposit. But we just lost 6 months of potential buyers.

Our land is in NM, and they were in NC.

Same here I retired don’t answer any calls if it important they will leave a message. My wife also knows who is calling

I was getting lots of those calls, even inquiring about my sons address. When asked about my sons address I told them it wasn't mine. When asked about my address I immediately told them $1,000,0000 cash, no inspection and close in thirty days. Appraised value is under $400,000.

Oddly for the last 3 weeks my spam calls have gone to zero, my wife is getting over 20 a day.

I have an iPhone and it has a voicemail button in addition to the answer or hang up buttons. I have found that almost all SPAM calls will hang up if I press the voicemail button. But a recent call was same as the OP and they left a voicemail stating they wanted to buy my house. I almost called them back to give them a big price as well but it was too much effort for no gain. Kind of wish I answered the phone that time.

I usually don't answer unknown calls, when I do I answer in spanish in the most pathetic tone I can muster. They generally hang up immediately. I also get texts and calls for whoever used this number before for payday loans, parole violations, all kinds of stuff. I would love to meet this asshat Kyle Osborne. I've had this number for 15 years.

I'm also signed up for the Kolorado as well as the federal no-call lists, what a joke that is.

Evidently the 'Delete and Report as Junk' button adds me to more lists...

I have thought about responding to the texts with the 'stop' option but I'm unsure if that will encourage more texts?
