So I got the gun at a bargain $700. It is easy 98% by anyone's grading. Now I found a correct Silver with black wreaths box . Correct end label for Lightweight is printed right into the box, not an added on label. Is this the correct box for my gun serial 201,xxx? I have to pay $800 for this box. I know the box is worth the $800. But......Does my package that is now $1500 total cost to me, is it worth more than the that? Thanks!

The original box for your gun could have been a green or black wreath. Besides two-digit guns which could have been shipped with either color (shipped late) I've heard of green wreath boxes as high as 202713 and black wreath boxes as early as 201788.
I will say one thing....a boxed Lightweight is always a lot easier to sell down the road than a non-boxed Lightweight. Doesnt' matter if the number on the end matches or not. Were it me, I'd go for it. Rarely does anybody get a chance at a LW box.

I agree 100% with Chet15. A LW with a box beats two in the bush... :D

I HAD another one, but, alas it just had to move so it could be paired up with a consecutive pair!

Oh, well.........

Well I saw 4 boxed LW's today at the OGCA show....one green wreath 2 black wreath and one with the end label on an RSS5 box....didn't get a single one....all went home to a local farmer.....he also snagged a RSS4x xr3 framed convertible.....the worst part is he wasn't even at the show.....he was at home renewing his wedding vows after 50 years    I told him after 50 years a guy should have his sentence commuted NOT extended.....well he is a good guy and deserve to get some mighty fine guns    RR.

OH YA......BUY THE BOX.....

Back in the early 80s I had a chance to buy a Hawkeye box for $100 and a Lightweight box for $50. With that same $150 dollars I could have bought a 3 screw Old Model 357. So that was a lot of money to put into those boxes back then. I went ahead and bought both boxes and when I sold both of the guns 3 years ago I grinned all the way to the bank. In 40 years of collecting Rugers I only found 2 Lightweight boxes. That one for $50 and I had to buy the gun, paper work to get the other box. This one cost me $450. Everyone else says buy the box and so do I!!!

hard for ME to tell a guy to go buy a "box" for that kind of money, when with a little time & patience you can get one like this.................

and yes Mr Flatgate, paid Ohio pricing, got it at the maumee gun show when we set up with our friend Don W.....paid $350 for the "package" and yes, we told the guy it was worth a whole LOT MORE, but he had to have a gun we had on the table that cost $350......oh well gave it to Laura for a 'present' 8)

Whew, Dan, I about fell out of my chair!..... :D

Well, you folks living in "high population" areas certainly see more "good stuff" than we "wide open spaces" settlers do..... :D

Everybody thinks Dan lives in a selected area for such good prices on Rugers. Y'all just don't understand his secret. He has been at this game so long, that the folks who come to gun shows know who he is, what he knows, and the type of (nice) guy he is. They will bypass a lot of other folks just to deal with "Dan the Man!"
The rest of us peons can only hope & wish! "D

(Contender who is among the jealous folks over that LWT boxed set.) :D

Thanks for the nice words Ty, that LW is really 'neat' and you should have seen it BEFORE, it hung in an old barn and was used to shoot "stuff"?? in the barn and was COVERED, caked on pigeon and barn owl 'crap', and the son, had the box in a closet, full of old Boy Scout patches, thats a whole nother story. In fact just this past weekend at the OGCA, I took in and past on, a PAIR of Ross variation, BKH34s for one friend , then sold to another, and just doing my 'job' right place at the right time, and was not really looking for any and do NOT "say no" when the price/offer is 'right'.............I am NOT going to say anything about the prices but you guys would be 'impressed' and YES, Ohio prices !!!!
Hey thats what friends are for, NOT always about the money....lots of folks are miffed on 'how' Don, Bill ,Bob and I wheel and deal and swap at any given time and most of the time, NO money changes hands or "favors" are owed........................Good friends

Carl , the offer still stands and is alway 'open' you come down here, spend a day or two, set at the table with me, and see, find out for yourself... 8)

and CJ< you want or need the box, no need to ask us or get second guessed, you go for it, there are NOT that many out there and as said, "most folks never even get to see, hold or get a chance to buy one one of them.."
good luck, AND we want to 'see' pictures!!!

Ok, I have the box now and it is nice shape! Sorry I don't have a picture hosting place right now. Thanks Mishtub for hosting them! I am not embrassed to need some encourgement to pay $800 for a darn box. My previous high was a mere $250! But I do not think I will see another one very soon, and if I do it will not be cheap. Everyone gets great deals sometimes, other time we have to pay the price! So I have $1500 even into the gun and box and I think I could opt out of it together or seperately pretty easily. Thanks all!

By the way, The box has remnants of serial 20014?S on the end in the regular position. Like it was put on with a ball point that was out of ink and just left an impression in the cardboard. The last digit is not legible and there is the letter S on the end it is not an 8. So if original, that serial is even lower than my gun and the S is like a Bearcat S numbered Second quality pistol that I once had. Hmmmm......?

Hey here is my 200565 S marked LW box......no S on the end of the pencil marked serial number......

Here is the shipper and no S on it either.....

Here is the gun 200565S.......

Here is my box with the serial number with S on the end of it, and another 200--- unfinished or removed serial above it. When I see a box like this I figure the serial was erased and a different serial put on. What does the S on a gun (or a correct box) mean anyway? Second? Anyone have a source for that heavy Ruger wax paper?

Ask this guy if you could have 10 or 20 feet off his roll!

:D

PS Yes, "S" on a Ruger usually designates a "Second".
