It's 1975, and I just got this 77R in .257 Roberts... Actually, I did just get it; this week. New in the box with rings still in the factory wrap and red felt bag, papers and all. Thought I'd share a pic or two while it is still NIB. I hope to keep it as-new, but I do plan to shoot it. That's what it was made for, right?

That is one purty rifle! And yes, you should shoot it. I must confess, however, that if it were mine, I'd have a struggle. It would be hard for me to shoot it.

You have to tell the story of how you scored that one.

Smith & Wesson forum classifieds, oddly enough. Dealer in Idaho had it. It just spoke to me and I "had" to have it. You know how it is. May have to sell a couple of "expendable" guns to atone for it, but I wanted it. Now for an appropriate scope. I'm thinking 3.5-10x Leupold with the Boone & Crockett reticle.

Nice rifle! The stock appears to be somewhat glossy from the pictures, not satin/dull like stocks now. I have a M77 RSI from the same year that has a similar finish. I was accused of having it refinished- not so! Anyone have an answer as to why my finish is somewhat glossy? It was purchased new.
