I have a M77MkII SA; in what order, and how tightly, do you tighten the action screws (bolts)?

I always felt it was best to tighten the screw on the recoil lug firmly. That's the one forward of the floor plate and tighten the others snug. You can actually affect the accuracy by the way you tighten the screws.[/i]

Just a hint...install all three screws without torqueing any to make sure the tab near forward triggerguard screw lines up with the notch in the magazine box. Then check the magazine floorplate, if it doesn't close the magazine box may need to be repositioned. Once everything is lined up then:

Order = Diagonal bedding screw, then the aft triggerguard screw, lastly the forward triggerguard screw.

Ruger torques these screws tight = 85-95 inch-pounds for the diagonal screw and 50 inch-pounds for the triggerguard screws. (There are other, lower, torque values identified in previous posts...they are really only for collectable variations. The intent is to avoid buggering-up screws during the torque sequence.) :shock:

As Flash indicated the diagonal bedding screw has some effect on accuracy. The higher the torque, the more foreend pressure applied. Another variable that can be expoited during load development, but not necessary for hunting accuracy.
