Just got back from my first trip to the range with my new Ruger SR9c.
This has been crying to be shot for over a month now and I just couldn't take it any more. It was a beautiful day here in southern Michigan and off to the range we went.
I went with my friend who also has a new SR9c. We found a good deal at the Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan several weeks ago and each bought one of the stainless slide versions.
I personally like the two tone look. I think it adds to the look of an already sleek design.
So a little background ; before the trip to the range the pistol was taken down, cleaned and lubed. Then I worked the action by hand 200 times and dry fired (with the mag in place) 300 times.
Yes the slide serrations are kind of sharp. Not a big issue.
On to the range. I fired 125 rounds of Winchester nato 124gr FMJ, 50 rounds of Blazer 115gr FMJ 35rnds of Federal 115gr FMJ, 35 rounds of 147gr RNL light reloads and 40 rounds of Remington 115gr JHP.
SO that's 285 rounds of a variety of different 9mm with 75% of this being through the 10 round mag. About 25% of this was fired off hand the rest from a rest all at 15 yards. All shots stayed on the paper and 95% within a 10" round target. Some of this was Rapid double taps and a couple short strings of rapid fire. Some of the Winchester NATO stuff seemed like it was all over the place??? not sure why. All of these came out of a batch that had been around for a while. Most all the ammo grouped pretty well when I did my part 4"-5" or better. I was not really testing for accuracy this trip but mostly concerned with function. But I noticed a preference for the FEDERAL FMJ.
Now the real story; out of all this different ammo the only issue I had were my LIGHT hand loads. these were 3grs of Unique behind 147 RN lead with standard Winchester primers. They were too light to work the action consistently and had to be racked in by hand most times. They also seemed to shoot low and right. Otherwise NOT A SINGLE MALFUNCTION.
So far so good. My buddy has over 600rnds though his SR9c and has had only 4 failures and all but one of these were his own hand loads.
