OK, the 380 i've posted about the ammo (or lack of) was a Bersa Thunder 380 bought at Academy Sunday-
Thing is while we were waitin on "the call" i was just shootin the breeze with the MGR behind the counter, I brought up the fact that my wife was buying the Bersa because she did'nt want to be constantly banging her SR9C around takeing it in & out her truck not to mention forgetting it completely  I jokeingly said i might as well sell her SR9C since the Bersa wud remain in her truck 24/7 & Lord knows i had plenty of guns in the house
Well, he allmost pleaded with me to give him first chance at it! They had got one in & it was sold before he came to work

Whats the deal- too much demand vs supply :?:

Texasgunner, Having previously owned a small gun shop for a period of years, here is the "problem"! Small gun shops (outfits) rarely get "preferred customer" status with the jobbers/wholesalers! They don't buy in a big enough volume to get the extra "perks" that larger concerns do. As an example, I may have had to pay $310.00 for a rifle wholesale, while the big chain stores were getting them for $275.00 from the "same" jobber. I may have had to get on a list and "wait" for 6 months to get that "one" rifle while the big dealer was getting 30 of them shipped to them on "demand". That has a lot to do with "who" gets "what and when"! Just a "fact" of marketing in this "business"................................Dick

Yes, I like to look at guns at Academy,... but I never buy from them. The usual kids who work there do not have the depth of knowlege about firearms I'm usually seeking, and likely are not going to be able to diagnose/repair any problems found with guns purchased there.
The small gun shop that's been in business for 25 years with the same gunsmith (ret'd History teacher, Chuck) and willingness to order what I need....is the same guy I hope will still be in business in 20 years when my grandson takes the rifle I bequeath him in for service.

When the anti-gun crowd finally wins-out, Academy will still be sending money to only one party and selling shoes and women's wear and won't give a damm when they convert the glass cases to wrist-watches and candy. But Chuck is a dues-paying member of our gun community who recognizes that both pol. parites have supporters and detractors, and which of them are which, and he teaches Marksmanship Merit Badge every summer.

I'd like to recommend the Academy in Shreveport, Why well because my son works there ( what a deal for me) LOL... with that said he and a couple of others are very knowledgeable, they take the time to talk to their customers, and don't try to sell more then what YOU want. They explain the guns , possible recoil issues, price and ammo availability. I guess its that they don't try to overload you with high tech, high price items. If the customer is knowledgeable they provide you with service, if they are new to shooting they provide the information to make a good choice for their first weapon. They SELL a lot of weapons. Sound like a proud dad huh

I can understand that-
Sad tho, I really love going into my old time "Local" dealer to visit, buy or trade - I figger its one of the few remaining gun shops that you can wander in & just look, sit & visit & feel no pressure to "buy something or go away" It's still kind of like going into a old time "General Store"-
Hell, they still got ashtrays & spittoons
