Several female members of my extended family are having fits over the new Texas laws regarding abortion, and at least some of them seem to be one issue voters who will place support of abortion "rights" above any and all other issues. I've often wondered if these same relatives have secretly had abortions in their younger days, and maintenance of this alleged "right" validates to them that what they did was perfectly acceptable. Growing up in the 1950's, abortion was never an issue ever discussed in my family (to the best of my memory) because it was both illegal and abhorrent, and I never recall any of these same female relatives ever speaking out in favor of legalizing the practice. So their almost fanatical support now hints at something more sinister to me, i.e., that they availed themselves of this practice either before or after its legalization and are now dealing with immense guilt at what they did, guilt that is at least partially alleviated if abortion is kept legal and practiced by others. Just wondering.
