When I could put every round in the 10 ring, offhand @ 200yds (no scope), with M-1, M-14, M-16, or any other rifle that was sighted in. That was 30 years ago and more. Now at 72, I can't keep a steady aim at 50yds with a .22. The mind is willing, but the body just won't cooperate anymore. I guess I shouldn't complain, but it just pisses me off. :x

Try to appreciate the things you still can do. Don't focus on what you've lost. It's not going to get easier.

Getting old is not easy, but it still beats dieing young.

Getting old is a whole lot better than not getting old. I fell your pain Gunny, but I simile in the mirror each morning. I'm not a steady as I use to be, so what.

Hows that song go?, I'm not as good as I once was but I'm good once as I ever was. ps

My hold is as steady as ever at 50+ but my once excellent vision is making targets and sights blurry. I'm working with cateracts developing and a lot of floaters in my vision as well. That and high deductible crappy coverage insurance doesn't bode well. Anyway scopes are cheap so I guess I'll keep after it. My dads nearly 90 and he's still shooting occasionally.

I was into handguns for the last 55 years and have amassed a nice collection. I will be 76 this month. I have developed "the shakes". It`s a family thing from my dad`s side. We had a huge family and it seem`s most of those old aunts and uncles shook.
I had to requalify yearly my 35 years on the job. Never had a problem. But now I do. It was my biggest hobby/love and now I have a fortune tied up in guns that I aint good with. Bummer. Also my eyes and hearing isn't the best. It`s part of life.

You guys make me depressed. Or maybe it's cause I just hit 50 last Nov. and before the week was out had a AARP solicitation in my mailbox (no, I won't join the anti gun jerks!) Went to the doc this week and she's like "every man 50 and over should have a colonostomy". I am thinking, what's the deal, you hit 50 and that's the end? I can still shoot pretty good though, so I ain't complaining about that, although I have to admit, not like I used to.

I don't hunt now, and do not compete in shooting with others. My steadiness and vision are far worse than they were when I was younger (I'm now almost 74) but I don't let it bother me. I can still make 6 inch shot groups with my handguns at 7 yards, and sometimes a bit further out, and that should be sufficient for self defense purposes. When I have trouble hitting a dinner plate at 3 yards I will start to get worried. Right now I can still ride my motorcycle, and still put a couple of rounds center mass at personal defense distances, so I consider myself good to go.

Well, I'll jump in here too.
I'm 58, and used to be in excellent health. Passed military flight physicals, good eyes, ears, strength, etc. But,,, like so many,,, age is creeping into my daily stuff & has been for a while. My eyesight has slipped to where I wear glasses now, so my handgunning isn't as it should be. I have aches & pains in various places from daily work that don't fade away as quickly as they used to.
I. like so many get a bit frustrated at not being able to do the things I used to do. But,, knowing I could be a lot worse off makes me appreciate the good things I can still do. I see many of my friends who have had one or both knees replaced, or one or both shoulder rotater cuffs done,,, or one or both hips replaced. And lets not forget how many have back surgery, or diabetes, blood pressure problems, or heart issues.
So, I'm grateful knowing that even though I'm ageing I know it could be worse.

I know what you mean. I am 80 last Feb. and there are many things that I can't do as well as I used to, but I also realize that many of by boyhood chums and girlfriends are no longer with us.

Someone asked me last fall if I dreaded turning 80. I said no, actually I am looking forward to it because I have known so many that didn't make it that far.

Maybe I have been lucky, so far my health is still good and while I had to give up jogging, I can still take a nice brisk walk of 45 minutes every morning and Hell, I know people who are 1/2 my age who can't.

Remember Jimminy Crickit in the old movie that I dis-remember the name of and acen-tuate the positive and elim-inate the negative. 8)

As one who is 73 I can relate to all of the above complaints and ailments. All I can add is "it ain't gonna' get any better".

I wasn't worried about the spelling, just the huge difference between those two procedures.

.

As Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry) once said: "A man's GOT to come to terms with his limitations"........

I'm pretty fortunate, to still be able to shoot hand & long guns accurately in my 75th year - but I choose to no longer shoot at a game animal that's any farther away than 200-250 yds (100yds with a handgun).

.

I used to be able to run.
Now all I get is an old man shuffle with a cane being flung about......................
Last year I had 4 surgeries...........two being emergencies.
Yeah I'm old.
It beats the alternative and I try not to dwell on it unless I stumble on to one
of these "I've become an old man threads"...............
Now I'm cranky again...........thanks a bunch............
