So Ruger re-engineered the charger, what changes did they make, did they do something to prevent it from being dropped in a rifle stock?

In this day and age it is for sure odd that Ruger would make a pistol that one could easily convert to a short barreled illegal rifle.... you would think they would do something to save us from this. Or at least put a big read warning on the gun.

Yes. It is called a federal felony. The prevention is between your ears.
No one can engineer deliberate criminal behavior out of a machine's user.

Changes?

Threaded barrel, different (better) bi-pod, different stock, added a take-down model with a hard case.

Some good pics here, it looks like the standard model still comes with the zippered case.

Dern, I never thought of that... but then we know that the crown would have to be finished just right which usually requires a good gun smith to get just right.... so no one would really do that...

Actually recrowning a cut-off barrel to adequate (not bench rest) standard isn't that hard. Assuming the barrel is cut reasonably square, a round head brass bolt chucked in a hand drill and used with a mild abrasive like valve-grinding compound can create quite a good crown.

The legal issues, if you make it too short, aren't that easy to deal with.
