The enablers…..Mr. Phillips and that Hindo44 character that helped me through an issue on one of my birdshead Vaquero rust problems, and a few more enablers out there. Yes you know who you are !!!!!
All I really wanted was a Ruger 45 Colt shooter to go and play with. Then I picked up an OM Sheriff’s model and it was as new, then I said I needed a well-worn shooter and continued my search. Then I decided I needed as many of those as new 3 ¾ inch large frames Vaqueros 45s that I could put my hands on and now I have many.
Well one of the enablers started this gotta have more and different Vaquero things. As some of you may remember I posted the first set of 4 in all the offered barrel lengths. This was only after one of those enablers, Tyrone, said….Have you got something against the other barrel length guns and what about the SS models you know you’re need those. Well got me to thinking so I was on a mission to get the other three and change the grips and I posted. I think the guns with the CC and blue look great with those maple grips.
Then off on another mission to find the OM 45s in polished stainless. To my surprise it only took two months and I have all four that are as new as can be. Which got me thinking these needed new grips as well. So to spread the love to another maker I ordered some maple grips form Private’s to use on one of my new Blackhawks and for S&G I put them one of the SS models. Then ordered the other three sets for the other three guns, which I am waiting patiently on from Carl. Once they are all done I’ll post the photos of them all.
I reached out to one of the other enablers, Hondo44, and ask him a question as to what are my chances of finding the 4 5/8, 5 1/2 and 7/1/2 barrel lengths in the birdshead models. He said no problem at all there JP the opportunities are endless, you can do this. Well harder to find that one might think, so I went to plan B to have some fun. Picked up three more guns CC and Blue in the different barrel lengths, plow handle and found a brass modified birdshead frames to give a try.
Ms Linda AKA Lefty looked at the modified brass birdshead frame on the first one I have had the time to fit and finish and said. That looks like a gun the girls would have had that worked in the old west brothels, and was I going to do a set of four in that style as well, why yes, yes I am Honey I said, She asked when I was going to have the 7 ½ inch gun done so she could shoot it. “Honey as soon as possible” .
And then hondo44 posted a thread where he had modified an OM Vaquero birdshead to a plow handle frame and added a new barrel length. Well before I got started on the brass frame trial thing, why didn’t one of you tell me that out of all the 3 ¾ barrel length birdshead I have I could just change the barrels to get a 4 5/8, 5 1/2 and 7 ½ to complete a set of four.
I may very well not know what I doing with this collection of Ruger guns I am off on... but I having fun anyway. I told one of the enablers in just 18 months I have managed to acquire 31 Vaqueros and 4 Blackhawks convertibles in the single action style and he informed me, he had that many in just the 22cal SA guns. I may not be as sick as I thought !!!!!
