Thanks to all that responded to my questions about the SBH I found at a pawn shop. I was going to go buy it today but on Thursday I learned the ATF is trying to pull the guys FFL. They did an inspection of him and found over 100 guns he can't account for. He is also being charged with knowingly selling to straw buyers. An FBI plant made the comment that she was buying the gun for her boyfriend who can't buy it because he is a felon. They sold it to her anyway. You can read the story on JS online. Click HERE. It's a Milwaukee WI news paper. Again thanks for the comments but I think I will stay away from this guy.

Always good to do the homework first and find out about such stuff. Yet another dealer that let greed take control. Hopefully they throw the book at him and he ends a "safe queen" for a while. ;)

If the story as printed is true ..... and it appears to be; I hope the NRA and responsible gun owners across that state are making some serious noise to get this guy OUT of the gun business forever.

Criminals like this are part of what feeds more liberal attempts at killing the 2nd amendment.

A local dealer was busted here for the same thing. A gun was traced back to him that was used in a shooting and agents were sent it to make straw purchases. They compiled enough evidence to send the license holder to prison and it happened within weeks. He was a former Marine too.

Is that the one where the deputy was taking weapons home and "mixing" them with his personal collection?

Sorry you lost out on a gun you wanted....BUT...glad that he is out of the biz. Ditto hittman's view on this - "Criminals like this are part of what feeds more liberal attempts at killing the 2nd amendment."

Wisconsin has some real winners when it comes to guns. We have the above mentioned store. We have another one that has sold the guns used in the last six police officer shootings and a few years ago sold the most guns in the nation involved in crimes. Numerous straw purchase cases which are not a felony in Wisconsin unless the feds prosecute. My favorite is the guy who was buying and reselling pistols to know gangbangers. He sold a pistol to a blind drug dealer. The drug dealer told him he is a better shot now that he is blind. I avoid most gun stores and buy online. The stuff I see either pisses me off or scares the hell out of me. Last time I was at Cabelas a whole tribe of ghetto rats was at the gun counter. Including granny hunched over in a wheel chair. She was doing the paper work on a 40 caliber taurus and could barely hold a pen.

And what happens to the guns that are confiscated, are they just all melted down for scrap?

i had to stop going to a local gun store because last time i was in there they were trying to sell a gun to a non english speaking dressed like a gangbanger. and he was looking at mac-9s and ak's.
low and behold one of there employees gets busted for private sales in the parking lot of store merchandise. the store was smart because it couldnt come back on them.

hugazombie,

Depends on the jurisdiction. Where I'm located, confiscated wepons are sold to FFL dealers when they're no longer needed as evidence. It's state law!

Sadly, other jurisdictions automatically melt them down.

Check out "parts kits" on Gunbroker, especially tjonesoutdoors. Some places "destroy" the gun by destroying the numbered receiver or frame, then sell all the rest of the parts. I picked up a P90 "kit" a couple of years ago that included everything, even the magazine, but not the frame, for $50. The extra barrel comes in handy to check reloads for chambering.

I beg to differ. Just because the authority does not choose to prosecute (or even if someone just doesn't get caught) does not mean that person has not committed a crime.

The crime is a crime. It does not matter if the criminal gets away with it or not. It is still a crime and the perpetrator is still a criminal. CONSIDERED innocent until PROVEN guilty is not the same as actually innocent.

OK, climbing down off the soapbox now.

The ATF doesn't crack down on dealers because there are so many loopholes in the law protecting them, agency veterans say.

"It is just very difficult to go after a gun dealer," said Gerald Nunziato, who retired in 1999 after 29 years in the ATF.
Feces.

'No one has been charged with straw buying or selling in the case.'
So, the local DA and States' Attorney don't feel like doing their jobs.

I'm not defending a bad FFL, but if the enforcement agents would rather spend their time watching porn, on-duty, or picking up hookers and coke, vs. running a legitimate sting, you've got bigger problems than a money grubbing dealer.
