Any thoughts out there on having the TC Custom mod performed on a Ruger Alaskan (2.5 inch) .454 to handle the .45 ACP full moon clips. I know it will void the factory warranty but that is not an issue. Also with all I have read on the forum about the special alloy used in the cylinder do you think there would be any problems with engraving the cylinder or having gold bands applied? Do you think this would weaken the cylinder since this is a high pressure cartridge? Any feedback is appreciated.

Do you mean TK Custom? I'm having them do a couple cylinders now. I think they do pretty darn good work.

Also, you don't really have any warranty with Ruger, they just happen to do a really good job at taking care of their customers. As long as your gun works okay now, I wouldn't worry about the modifications.

Any engraving is going to be in microns in depth, its certainly not going to weaken it.

TK does great work and has a super quick turnaround time to boot.

New guy on the block up in Idaho. Thanks for the quick feedback. Big fingers/slow mind. It is TK Custom. I think its a good mod as it allows the "cannon" to be used for purposes other than bone crushing. This is all research at this time as I too am awaiting receipt of a 454. The 44 mag is available but the 454 is scarce. Rumor has it that they make one 454 to every 44. Whatever the case they are gone as soon as they hit the showcase. Thanks again for the input.

Ruger doesn't release production numbers, but I'd say the .454s are going to sell pretty well since there quite a few .44 Mag makers and guns out there, and not nearly as many .454 C guns. Also, recoil junkies want the big boomers.
