Talk About Luck, Nice Find

A guy in Phoenix went into a Goodwill store and found a Jaeger LeCoultre watch marked $6, he knew he had something, did some research and found there were only about 500 made in 1959, he sold it to a collector for $35,000 and the collector threw in an Omega Speedmaster to sweeten the deal. Maybe I need to frequent thrift stores more often.

yes, hear about that all the time, recently someone found an original artwork worth hundreds of thousands of dollars....good for them, hey the workers are ONLY volunteers and do an awesome job.

The internet has made such finds rare because value checks are now so easy to do.

I worked with a man who had a painting that came from Germany, no signature could be found. He took it to Antiques Roadshow when it came to Memphis, and they valued it at next to worthless, as it lacked a signature. It was some obscure WW II artist in Gemany.

A couple of months later, he sold it at a studio here in Memphis for around $15,000 as I recall. Another friend had a chess set, ebony and ivory, and Antiques Roadshow told him no matter the value, he could not sell it due to an ivory ban. It was legal ivory.

So I no longer out too much faith in that show.
