I shoot lots of custom Blackhawks and am thinking of doing a Tactical Solutions semi-auto on a Ruger .22lr.

Question is: Which model..MKl, MKll MKlll or 22/45 should I use or most desirable to use for a base gun?

I know this is dangerous but why is one or another a better choice?

Links or articles would be appreciated.

I do have a MKll that Hamilton Bowen did for Handgunner magazine in 1987 but it has match chamber and is sort of a pain in regard to what ammo it will eat.

Thanks!

I did a tac sol barrel on my mkII and like it alot. its the serial numberded part of the firearm so itl have to be bought through an ffl.

I personally like the mk grip angle better than the 22/45 but thats just personal preference. The barrel/reciever will not have the lci or the mag disconnect so by the time your done I don't think it really matter if you use a II or III. The mkI does no lock the bolt open on the last shot I am not sure if adding the tac sol would change that but I doubt it, the mki mags hold 9rds as opposed to the 10 rd of the newer models

Triggers are another question entirely and i dont know much about the triggers on different models. but if you are go a drop the money on the barrel you might as well do a trigger job, you can get the volquesten trigger kit for around 120 I think.

If your going to build a full custom gun with a TS barrel, etc; I think you might want to stick with the MKII or III frame as opposed to the 22/45.
1. The almost unlimited variety of custom grips available for the MK series guns. Unless you get a 22/45RP with the removable 45 style grips you'd be stuck with the std 22/45's molded in grips. And although the RP will use some 1911 grips with a little mod, your still going to be limited.
2. I've done trigger work on both and find I can get a more consistent trigger with the steel frame guns. Seems all the pin holes in the poly frame guns have some slop/looseness to them that introduces some inconsistencies in trigger pull with a bit of creep that comes and goes between shots.
But try them both for yourself, I do love the pointability of the 22/45 frame, they just fit me and I love to shoot them.
