This kinda stuff drives the Collectors so thought,,, I a shooter accumlator would make a note.

Aquired a ~10,000 SN# gun last month (12/2011 test shot) and it came in this box.
a "SR-1911"
and
the case had some white silk screened writing on the case, I gave it to my son so don't have a pic of it.

Just aquired this ~9,000 SN# with a 1/2012 test shot. No SR-1911 and the case has a Red Hard R bird only. Nicer, slightly thicker case too. imo

Also. they don't ship em in order...

This was spoted today 1/20/2013 Variation #3. Hard R,White
"Buckeye Bill" Gun, Grips & Photo

Now they can only stock one box and use it for multiple guns. The MKIII's now come in that same box. Cost savings for the factory as now they can order a greater quantity of just one stock unit versus lesser quantities of gun specific boxes.

Let me help you out. I think the one your son got looks something like this. BUSTED!  Thanks a lot. Best gift ever. Couldn't help yourself could ya?

Maybe they are just trying to be more environmentally friendly since most people throw the boxes away. Or maybe they are just going back to their roots since they put guns in cardboard boxes for a long time. In fact a white box Super is probably one of the rarest collectibles.

So now the white-labeled rug is a COLLECTOR ITEM!

I thought it was a box ???

Maybe we should have a sticky thread about how long the piece of tape was that held each kind of box closed ... :D

Just between you and me, those gun rugs aren't the best. I wouldn't pay for one like it. I would of rather had a third magazine. Now the case I got with my SR556 is pretty nice. RevHigh, you can start a poll of which one is prettier. Maybe they could have them in pink just for you.

I'm not even using the rug that came with mine. Just left it in the box. I got the blue range bag offered on the Ruger website. IIRC Ruger lists it for $68 and change. With the 20% discount I received for registering my SR1911 purchase with Ruger that bag cost $56. Its a nice bag, will hold 2 guns and other accessories.

I also have pistol rug from Midway USA that holds one pistol and 7 mags, plus has 2 pockets that will hold ammo and folding ear muffs. Midway has those on sale for $10 every so often. Otherwise cost is $20.

I purchased another SR1911 yesterday and I have found the "RARE" third box/rug variation.

The box is the second variation while the pistol rug is the first variation

For the non-collectors, that interprets to box with just "Ruger" and the Hard "R" Eagle on it but the pistol rug has the white lettering that says "Ruger SR1911" as shown in DGHERK's post.

Now I am going to have to check the two I have given as gifts to see if any other variations exist......

This could get expensive...

My newest one is SN 0971x and it's got the white lettered gun rug & SR-specific box. Test cartridge date 12/01/2011.

A good example of original box and pistol rug variations.....  8) sometimes I think Rugeritis is a real disease...the factory must have many laughs on US...

Oh it's a real disease alright... Just ask my accountant! (Only a few of us know about it though, and we've ALL got it under control of course!)

My doctor (accountant) thinks my case is eventually going to be fatal....

I am either going to run out of money, or my wife is going to SHOOT me...

Wife handles the kitchen and I handle the money in this household :) I earn it.. I get to say where it goes. I like the arrangement!
Like you actually expect us other married guys to believe that?

We share the decisions at my house. :)

My wife lets me handle the money, too......and then I give it to her....

Once you get to a certain amount of firearms...wives lose track....trust me, I learned that years ago....I have explained to her when she sells them all at auction after my demise..she will realize what a brilliant man I really was...in addition to being handsome

Yeah, we know about losing track... Fortunately I'm a spreadsheet junkie, so she knows if I keel over she's got all the data buried somewhere in the bowels of my computer & backup drives.

No good on the handsome here.. Got a face made for radio, but we put up with each other kinda like the USA & Soviet Union did.

Ditto on the spreadsheet... but as I get older, I find myself needing it to remind myself of information I forgot I once knew...

It is fun to open a long forgotten box and be surprised that you already own one of those firearms that you have wanted for a really long time

Detente works quite nicely in my home as well.... 8) 8)

Looks like maybe the rug change started this year. I have the collectors version with discreet white logo and lettering.

Just picked up my gun! 8)

The box simply says RUGER

The rug has the white eagle and white lettering.

I'm back @ work, & I'm on mah iPhone, so no pics till tonight.

You guys are missing the collectible zenith - the GREEN paper dot. Apparently only nhRugerman and I have them..so far.

I bought a SR1911 Commander a few weeks ago and it has the new white rug. Not sure it matters really.

Nahhh it doesn't matter untill 50 or so years later and a collector goes a lookin for the hard to find...
Who would of thought back in 1960 the white cardboard box would have ,,,, well ,,,, now find one for your Super Blackhawk Collection....

This very rare "Whitebox" Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum is one fine high polish gun. The extremely rare "Whitebox" is not mint but is the real deal. Own a piece of Ruger History from 1960. Very few of these around. Bill
