I've posted this before, but it's coming up again on hunting season and people will be out in the woods. This guy was attacked and mauled and just as he thought he was going to get away she came back and worked him over some more. He had bear spray, and used it, I'll let you decide if it protected him. I don't have confidence in it but everyone can make their own decision. This is his story. Pretty lucky guy I'd say.

Wow! Quite a story and quite a man. I have even less confidence in bear spray after watching that video than I did before - which doesn't say much for bear spray! I must say however, that I would have had my handgun in my hand when the second attack occurred.

I noted that he had enough concern for other people that he took time to try to write a warning note after his ordeal, rather than heading straight to town. And, he declined the rancher's offer of a ride to the hospital because he was concerned about bleeding all over the rancher's truck! Definitely NOT a 'me-first' mentality.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, he shoulda grabbed his gun..........but it appears that he fell back to what he had been allowed to carry/use while with the Forestry Service.........that's called "muscle memory". I was told by a very wise man.............."the bear spray is to be carried by the second person in the party..........if there ain't a second person, guns always come out first". Seems to me that if a shot (or two) across the bow of a charging bear don't get them to stand down, the remaining cartridges are already in place to finish the task.
