Super Blackhawk

I'm brand new to this forum, so pardon me if I mess up.

I'm getting older and want to get a fair price for some of my guns. The one I'm most partial to, but probably will never shoot again, is a blue, Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum 3 screw flat top, square brass trigger guard, 7 1/2 inch barrel with walnut grips. I really don't know about valuing guns, so I took it to a friend of mine who manages a Sportsman in Idaho. I unzipped the case, and he took a step back. He just stared. I said, "Well, look it over," and he said, "I'm not even going to touch it."

It's fired fewer than 100 rounds, and I still have the receipt dated Oct. 20, 1972. Unfortunately, no box.

Does anyone have any advice on how much I should get for it? Like I said, I'm just looking for a fair price.

Condition is everything and the originality of the brass frame must be confirmed. However, if all is as you describe, RENE says you should get up to $1400 without a box. It would help if you would post the serial number or at least part of it. And please post some pics.

One more thing, it is not a flattop. They didn't make flattop Supers.

You came to the right place for help.
First,, as noted,, they didn't make a "flattop" Super Blackhawk. They did make Flattops,, and then in around 1963 they transitioned to "protected ears" sights where the topstrap of the frame is no longer flat all the way across it.
That said,, an OM Super,, with a FACTORY brass grip frame that can be verified by a (free) letter from Ruger. You can call ruger at (603) 863-3300 and ask for "records." Tell the nice lady you want a correct model & date of shipment for it. Give her the serial number. She will come back with either "S47" or S47B" as the model info. That one little letter "B" will mean a lot. If it shipped as a S47B then it's verified as a factory brass grip framed gun. Good for you. Since you have the original reciept,, and it's dated 10/72,, you'll have a good idea as to when it was shipped.
Now,, the RENE price guide lists a 98% gun for $1400. You can use that as a guide to value.
Now,, if it does NOT letter,, then you can still have a factory MADE brass grip frame,, that was added by a dealer etc. You can remove the grip panels,, and look at the grip frame for the markings; "MR3-DB." That's a factory made brass gripframe. That grip frame is worth about $250-$300 with the proper wide Super trigger,, and the gun will be worth about $400 for a package price of about $700 for a nice non-lettered brassie.
