Super Blackhawk vs Blackhawk

Nice to be here. A few years ago I had a Blackhawk in .41 magnum and I let it go. I bought a brand new Super Blackhawk this week in stainless steel with 4 5/8" barrel. It's been a few years since I've handled either the Blackhawk or the SBH. Is the frame heavier on the SBH vs the BH? I have plenty of handguns, this one just seems heavy to me, but I am anxious to get out and shoot a few rounds through it. I didn't compare the two when I bought this one, I knew I wanted the SBH this time around. I am assuming they
are "Super" Blackhawks due the larger frame, am I correct??

The BH cylinder frame is exactly the same size as the SBH frame. The cylinder is the same size. No different.

The grip frames may be different of course. The difference in feel could be the Stainless revolver grip frame and ejector housing are steel. On the BH blued models they are lighter alloy with some exceptions.

FWIW, the flattop .44Spec BH is on the medium frame (same as the New Vaqueros). So we can't 'blanket' say all "New Model Blackhawks" are on the same frame anymore .... Lipsey and others have came out with 'special' runs of BHs on the medium frame.

One slight addition to RCLARK's excelent description. The 4 5/8" SBH's cylinder is not fluted where the .41 BH would have a fluted cylinger. This could cause a slight amount of weight difference.

I got the same SBH I've had it for many years and the added weight comes in handy with heavy loads.
