I am thinking of buying a new 44 mag SBH and plan to mount a scope. I want a short barrel so the Hunter model is out. That means if I want to use a scope I will need a base. I don't want one that is larger than necessary and ruins the look of the gun.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Try to find one of these no drill mounts.

...or one with the rings.

I D&T'd a Jack Weigand onto my SBH Bisley. Rock solid and looks good on there.

The D&T versions are sexier, but it's hard to complain about the ease of a 301 mount. I line the inside of the barrel "clamp" with a couple layers of tape before tightening everything down, it helps protect the finish for when the mount is removed.

One I probably wouldn't use again is the Leupold D&T mount. It's sleek and sexy, but it limits your optic position on top of the revolver, since the ring positions are fixed.
