Stuck Case

Any body got a good way to get it un stuck? I's a bolt action Sako in 300 win mag

Empty case ? I had a stuck case problem with a 7 X 57 a few years ago. Removed stock, and overnite in the freezer. Then a tight bore brush on a heavy cleaning rod, came right out. May try Kriol first.

Is it a whole case or did the head separate? If a whole case try to drive it out, if the head separated then use a old brass brush to push into the case and pull it out. For a 300 Mag a 45 brush might be large enough, you want it large enough so that the bristles bite into the brass when you pull it out.

Now we get a clearer picture of the problem. What you have is not a stuck case but "Bolt Lug Setback", a much more serious problem, which will require professional intervention. This is caused by excessive pressure which is sufficient to drive the bolt lugs into the face of their raceways locking everything up tight.

The one time that I saw this was when a guy at the range on the bench next to me actually loaded, chambered and fired a .308 Win round in a .280 Rem. Model 700. Somehow the bullet was able to exit the barrel, but the gun was locked up tight. In his frustrated attempt to remove the bolt, the guy locked the bolt head into a pair of vise grips and proceeded to twist the bolt arm almost completely off the bolt body, and still the bolt lugs held fast to their new home.

Ultimately, the guy, who is an FFL, sent it back to Remington, and they returned it in working order. For sure he got a new bolt, and I suspect that he may have gotten a new receiver as well. I have no idea what this all cost him. Understandably he just didn't want to talk about it.

I would recommend you either return it to the factory, or at least a good rifle builder.

FWIW this is how I removed a stuck case in my .44 mag Winchester Model 94

the top half of the case split and was stuck in the chamber. The bottom half came out with the extractor. I could not find a broken shell extractor anywhere, I don't think anyone makes them anymore.

What I did was I went through my taps and found one that would thread into an empty case but not cut through the brass, I carefully threaded the tap into the broken shell and them pushed out out using a wood dowel pushing from the muzzle.

The first thing I'd try would be to drop a cleaning rod down the muzzle-a steel one as big as bore will allow. If it's just a stuck case, this will jar it loose. If it's a lug setback, a couple of whacks with a nonmarring punch to the back of the bolt will give it some slack. Don't attempt to open the bolt by beating on the bolt handle.
