Shot my LCP just now. Gun has maybe had 100 rounds total. Stays in a holster in the console of my truck most of the time. Never had it do this until today. The magazine would come unlatched when the gun was fired. The latch seemed to work O.K. you can slide in the magazine and it would catch properly. Push the button and it would release, all seemed normal. I can even pull on the magazine like I am trying to remove it and it holds well. But...fire the gun and it unlocks. I just got in from my range and haven't had a chance to take it apart and clean and check it out yet. I thought when I was shooting it that maybe I was somehow hitting the release but I shot it left handed too and it still did it. Then a buddy fired it and it did it with him too. Anyone ever had this issue or seen this peculiar problem before??? Thanks in advance for reading this. Any information is greatly appreciated.

My original thought was that you were hitting the mag release, but assuming you've shot it without troubles before and the fact that you were suspecting and looking for that as you shot, it might be time to give Ruger a call.

Problem found...First off, thanks for the replies gentlemen. This is an early production gun. It went back for the recall to correct the issue where it may fire if dropped and they did a few other "updates" at that time. They installed the curved slide stop, a barrel with better chamber support and a new magazine release. Apparently the first mag releases were all plastic. The "upgrades" back then were still plastic but had a little metal pin on the very corner where it held the magazine. This is the one I got...the newest one as I understand it is all metal{steel??} The one I have with the little pin wasn't an effective fix as the pin and the entire corner is broken off. After getting it out of there and having a good look at it I dont know how it can hold the magazine in place at all. I am hopeful that Ruger will just send me the new catch. Thanks again guys....anyone out there with an LCP might want to check and see if the magazine catch/release is plastic and get the metal one.

Yep you got the first "fix". The new release is all metal. Ruger sent me one no charge give them a call and they should take care of you.

I got an early 370-4 digit LCP. It was sent back for the recall before I ever shot it. It's a great little shooter. If you havn't sent it back for the recall, I recommend you do. You'll have it back in no time.

Quick follow up for this post...I called Ruger today and the lady said "no problem, we will send out a metal magazine catch today." At first I dont think they were going to do it because she said "it is a very difficult part to change." But when I said it's out of the gun and in my hand no problem she said "oh, O.K. we'll send it." Cant beat that for customer service.
