I have a 44 carbine with the finger groove stock. The metal is in great shape but the stock has some bumps and bruises from hunting. Should I refinish the stock? Or would this destroy its' value?

A gun in original condition is only that way once,

A re-finished gun can be re-finished many times.

Destroy the value, NO

YES To a collector, most want them in "original" condition, BUT with that said, I have seen many re-finished guns in collections. They hold their spots until the collector finds something that fits better.

Go to Doug Turnbulls Site and read about re-finished -vs- re-stored. But lets face it spending that amount of money to properly re-store a gun stock so that it "looks new" doesn't make sense for most folks.

For one to recognize the "collector value" he has to part with the firearm, :shock: Ask yourself; Do you really want to do that? :shock:
Me; I have "rare, unique, collectible" guns that I enjoy using and yes they do get a bump here and there now and then. Every gun I have will last my lifetime and then some.
I will let the some worry about it.

Another interesting thought about guns;
Most of us here don't own any one gun that values more than $1000, a fair average ~ $500. We take better care of our guns than we do our Houses, Trucks. Think about it, and then chuckle.... rant off.
